Hi y'all! I have a 98 Eclipse GS 2G and when I try to put gas in it at the pump the pump keeps stopping and it takes forever to put gas in my car.

It has been sitting up after I had some work done on it and now when I crank it it will crank but it won't stay running. I have my seat out and I'm about to check my fuel pump wires to see if they might be corroded but I had just put a new pump in before it sat and I'm thinking that it might be bad gas making it not stay running.

May I please ask what is the first and most usual thing to check first when a gas pump keeps stopping? I also have to see if the charcoal filter is clogged because I never got that done before it sat up, but to do that I have to find that joker.

Should I drop and clean the tank? I'm too scared to hook wires up and have electrical messing with the gas tank to pump it out LOL, so I reckon I'll pull out the fuel pump and siphon it out and then refill with new gas.

But my most needed help is with knowing what all to check to fix the GS filling issue and hoping that may also solve whatever is making it keep dying. With this issue of not accepting the gas while pumping it into the car. 😞 I don't know a lot at all about cars and my daddy was the one that always working on this baby.

Thank you in advance for any help! At the moment having to find the fuse that is blown that goes to my diagnostic port so I can put in my little basic cheapo tester. Also just found my little gasoline quality test swabs to check the gasoline in the tank.

For the pump shutting off at the gas station it is related to the charcoal canister or vent valve. Post a picture of your filler neck. Im not sure if there is a vent hose attatched or not but if there is remove it and inspect it for cobwebs. And blow it out from the canister out words.
