I have a 98 eclipse gst that I bought in January that had a bad starter, steering rack was shot, and the timing belt was a little lose, but the car ran fine otherwise. Took the entire cold air intake system out and lowered the engine to fix the timing, changed the steering rack and changed the starter. put it all back together and now it won't go past 4k RPMs. when it hits 4k it starts sputtering and tries to die, feels like the car lost all power. changed the plugs and wires and that helped a bit but still isn't right. the car had mods prior to me buying it and I can't get ahold of him for the list and being new to modding makes it harder, but it has upgraded fuel injectors, BOV, short throw shifter, stage 2 clutch off the top of my head....if anyone can think of something it would help alot.

can answer any question you ask about the car or put pics up.

I'm new to modding but I've been reading alot on this stuff, thanks

Check for a boost leak or a leak in your vaccum lines.:aha:

p.s. make sure u have the timming right on sence fxed it, half a tooth can make a diffrance.

Is it possible to do a boost leak test with a compressor?

Was hoping it wasn't the timing. didn't wanna rip it back apart LOL

Where can I get a tuning management? and there is a boost guage, oil pressure guage and fuel guage, I don't remember what the fuel used to run like but now when I first start it the car runs Stoich then drops to the bottom of lean

ok, so I went through both sites and I will order the tester tomorrow, but I'm a bit unclear as to the safc ll, is it a chip?

The MAF is connected but do I need to reset something if I unplugged it while running?

Can you rev it past 4K if you slowly give it gas? Or is it just under wide open throttle/boost? Does your speedometer work? I have DSMLink and my speedo doesn't work so until I disabled launch control, I don't go above 4K RPMs LOL

Yeah actually, there is a certain point of the throttle where it keeps revving, but if I give it anymore gas it tries killing over again and the speedometer works fine.

Did you forget to reconnect the MAF wire harness or the ground cable on the starter bolt?

Kinda sounds like a MAF sensor, I think I forgot to connect mine once and something like that happened.

I don't think I forgot put the ground cable back but I will double check that, is it on the back side of the starter or on the side of the engine? there was one on each side and I believe one was the starter ground

Edit: Would there be something wrong with the sensor if you could unplug it while it's running and it tries to die? or would it run like that either way without a ground?

That makes me feel dumb LOL but no, it doesn't come on anymore. Was only on when I first got it and when I fixed everything it went off

If you unplug the Maf, It will want to stall, If this happens, then your Maf is working good, If it doesn't do anything, then It might be bad.

But to me, it looks more like a bad calibrated Throttle Position Sensor, Check your throttle Position Sensor, make sure it is in good conditions and calibrated right.

I didn't get any of the stock parts from the guy I bought it from, there is a switch inside the car he said was for the fuel injectors though. never made much sense to me

Thanks, will check it tomorrow morning.

Any idea on the injector switch inside the car? he didn't really explain it to me.

Working on filling my profile up, just don't know the brands of anything he put in LOL

I have no Idea about the switch, have you mess with it?.
Mess with it, to see what it does, there is no such switch thing for the injectors.
Also discard the Link I posted before, It is for a 1g, Here is another link for a 2g.

If you don't know what mods brands you have, post pics, and we can tell you what brand they are.

Does it idle good? If it runs like it has no power and it idles rough I'd say check your timing again. if not I'd be pointing to boost leaks or perhaps your tps wonked out on you. I'd lean more towards a boost leak though.

It idled rough until I changed the plugs and wires, now it idles perfect, gonna check the TPS sensor and see if that's it, and order the boost leak kit today :D

hey bud also check your CAS when you lowered the engine to work on the car maybe the wires were pulled and something could of came loose also check to see if u getting spark in all cyls... could also be a fuel related problem
