When you have a bad speedometer the needle will not move. Get a new one.

Oh by the way nice find! Talons are getting rear! People are trashing them like crazy :)

No you will not have to drive a little wile for it to start working again. Is VSS new or used. If it's use it probably bad too

its new i just bought it put it in and then took it down the block and still didn't work. ya i am super stoked i have wanted a tsi or gsx since i owned my first eclipse 9 years ago. and i am lucky i got this one because if i didn't buy it, it was going to the junk yard.

that is what i was afraid of. i am getting ready to license the car on wednesday and really don't want to drive it with out the speedometer working. what is the best way to test the wires with just a volt meter?

This may be a dumb question but did you make sure the gear snapped into place? That's the reason mine doesn't work cause the gear is not seated onto my speed sensor. I tested mine by putting a drill on the end of the sensor with the car in the on position and had someone tell me if the needle moved LOL.

ya i just got done checking that. LOL i had the same thought that maybe the sensor wasn't all the way in so i pulled it back out lubed the o-ring up a little then put it back in and still nothing.. i did notice how ever that when i first start the gauge move just a bit (you wouldn't see it if you weren't paying attention) then nothing.

Speedo are cheap I would just buy one.

Keep that Talon fresh! It will be one of the few in a couple of years.

i don't plan on ever getting rid of it. i have big plans for this car. and are you talking about an aftermarket speedo or the stock one.

The only way you're "legally" allowed to put in another speedo is if you have the ODO changed to reflect your car's mileage. If you throw one in that has a different mileage reading than you should have, if lower, and the DMV catches it, you could end up having to explain why or something. I'm not saying don't, just saying be careful about it if 6 out go that route. I have to find out what my state's policy is for setting a car's miles back to zero since I have a zero mileage cluster I'm putting in (from a different make/model). But I want my mileage reset since the entire car is being rebuilt.

Stock speedo at the junk yard.

What's your plan for the car?

my plans for the car are 600awhp street car

thanks for the heads up i didn't know that.

how do you check the gauge to see if it needs to be replaced. because the tripometer isn't working either are they ran on the same circuit?

They cant do jack shit if you tell them you got it because yours was broken, you basically would have to admit or try to scam someone in order for it to become a problem. :thumb:

so i just went to auto zone and had the run a check on my "check engine" light it came back as the vss even tho i just replaced it. when the guy typed in the vss on his computer it brought up a picture of 2 sensors with a single plug. what is that? where is is? and could that be my problem?

Can you post a picture of the VSS you installed on your car? I Just went through pictures on google that all show the wrong sensor. Would like to make sure you have the proper one.

Here's what I found on Autozone's website: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...ilterByKeyWord=speed+sensor&fromString=search

The black sensor (3rd down/Part Number: SU3038) is the proper sensor. Don't know why they have the others on there.

The vss sensor should be indicated as the following picture one. BTW, mine is a AT 4g63, I think MT should be the same.

I checked, what you mentioned above is called "Pulse Generator". This part is only used on A/T 4g63. I have never heard of the broken with this part.:hmm:
