97 tsi awd gas gage not working

hey i recently picked up a 97 tsi awd and the gas gage does not work. i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this or info on it. it does have a walboro 255 fuel pump and heard that aftermarket fuel pumps sometimes cause it not to work. so any help would be great

Does the needle on the gauge move at all? Is it stuck on empty? Putting an aftermarket fuel pump shouldnt cause any issues. It could possibly be a loose connection, or a broken sensor.

naw its at like 3/4 of afull tank even tho i only have like 5 gallons in it. it sucks guessing on it and i dont want it to run out. how would you fix it

Remove the back seat and take the fuel pump out. Passenger side. Chances are the float is stuck or needs looked at.
