I have a 98 gst and today i drove it to the store for the first time and i thout it was empty on gas put gas in it but the gas gauge didnt work i have read different post but still dont kn what to check if anyone can help would greatly appreciate it thanks. Also iam looking for the brake light signal light wiring harness the car didnt come with one thanks.

If it's not your fuse then most likely your sending unit is bad. Which that's inside the gas tank which you can get to if you remove the back seat.

+1

You had started a thread just on this before. Start a WTB ad in the classifieds, look for part outs on craigslist, look online, etc,etc,etc... I remember seeing on your thread about the lights that you had been told the same thing.

If i posted about the wiring harness my bad but this is the first time i have ever posted about the gas gauge again im sorry. Never kn when some one might read this and have 1.

Back at the tank (under back seat) ground the solid yellow fuel level sender wire. With key ON, the dash gauge should then read full. If it does, your sender is bad or the black wire no longer is connected to ground.

Great tip! My friend's gas gauge is messed up too, I know that there are two floats, one on the driver's side & one on the passenger side with the fuel pump. Can someone confirm that you would need to purchase BOTH fuel level floats if the gauge doesn't work?

I have a spare fuel level sending unit that ohm's out perfectly. You might also be able to pull the sensor and clean the contacts with a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol then adjust it's range with a DVOM.

Ok so i finally get to the back under the seat today to ground the solid yellow wire and in between the drivers side and passengers side all 3 wire's are broken so i ground the solid yellow wire and my gauge does nothing and then i ground the yellow stripe wire and my low fuel light goes on so i kn it is working but cant figure out why my fuel level isn't. Got any more ideas? And i got a hold of miller imports and they have the wiring harness thank's a bunch on that.

If your gauge doesn't work when you ground the solid yellow wire with the key ON, either your gauge is busted or there is a break in that wire between there and the gauge. I would try looking for a break first since if that's it getting another gauge won't help.

Ok so i went back out and re ground the solid yellow wire and the fuel gauge went up to about a quarter of the way so i guess my sending unit is bad thanks for all the replys i greatly appreciate it alot.
