hello everyone i have a 97 RS and it died on me the other day while i was driving it and wouldnt start back up it didnt chug or anything it just died once i brought it home i checked the timing it is all good has good compression so i took off my intake and sprayed some starting fluid in my intake and it started but wouldnt stay running i then put a hose to the intake breather and put some gas down into the intake to see if it would run maybe that way but no luck still only ran for a min i replaced the fuel filter and no change what do you guys think? could the pump have gone out just like that? any help would be greatly appreciated as i need to get this thing back on the road ASAP thank you

Hook up a fuel pressure gauge first and see if you are actually getting pressure or not. Could be as simple as a relay not turning the pump on. If there is pressure then it is an injector problem, if not then you trace it backwards to locate the problem.

+2 check all fuses under the hood and dash in hopes that the pump didn't give up on you, but you could unhook the fuel rail feed line and put it in a plastic bottle (to cash the fuel, if there is any) and crank the car over to see if you have fuel at all. If you had a afpr you could just check for pressure on the rail.

If fuel pressure checks out I think the crank angle sensor would be something to look into. I mite be wrong but it also controls fuel.

the crank position sensor on the 420a is only for ignition timing, the cam angle sensor is for fuel injector pulse. i would look at your CAS (cam angle sensor) or fuel pump. depending on mileage, both components could be having issues.

Thank you for all your help but I got it running found out that the plastic retaining clip on my ecu harness was broken and the plug had wiggled out a little ways runs good now

Another question maybe you can help with.. My car was originally an auto but the guy before me converted it to 5speed but now the cruise won't engage the on off works but not the steering wheel controls.. There is 2 wires clipped under my center console they are green w/white stripe and black in the same loom as the air bag wires could they have anything to do with it?
