97' GST run issues

My 97' GST died the other day as I was going out to the farm. A CEL came on but unfortunately I listened to one of the hands and left the negative battery post off all day.

So...

I can start the car and drive it for about five minutes. The car will then die and not turn on until i let it sit for about 30 minutes or so, and the cycle repeats. I have ruled out the coil pack because I replaced it for one and had the old one tested. I am in the process of checking the crank position sensor and will get back to everyone on that.

Any help would be apriciated!

Your battery is flat and recovering and then going flat again. Your alternator is either not working or the fuse has melted.

My nephew had the same problem with his 99 gst sypder. Tried everything except fraud. Had no choice but to swap the motor and it didn't happen again!

well, i didn't have the SAME problem, but I had a similar one. at any rate, here's what i'd do...in this order: check your whole battery/charging system for shorts, exposed wires, etc. if there are none, replace the battery with atleast 660 cca. if that doesn't solve it, then try running a gauge wire (0 or 1) rom the positive end of the battery to the alternator. that don't work, replace the alternator. if THAT doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell ya bud

It has a new battery in it as of april of this year. Any reason why you think its the alternator?

If the alternator isnt charging the battery then it will die. But your car cutting off can be multiple problems, you should check and see what that code is. I'm sure it will help you out tons in finding your problem.

Try the crankshaft sensor. My car ran for 20min, then shut off for 10min.
Changed that, now its good.
