97 eclipse problem

anyways i just bought a 97 eclipse gs-t completely stock thats how i wanted it so i can upgrade myself but there seems to be a problem with it and i cant figure it out..

well when i floor it and the rpms get like up to 5,6 grand the car will start jerking and not acclerting at all or barly and this happens when im just crusing and i just want to speed up a little it does the same exact thing..

any suggestions?

That means nothing. The stock boost gauge does not show real boost because it's just controlled by the ECU, which doesn't actually know the boost level since there is no sensor that tells the ECU how much boost there is. The ECU tells the boost gauge how far to go up according to airflow from the airflow sensor (MAS). Since the gauge is based off of airflow, a boost leak would cause it can read full boost even if are at a much lower boost level -- boost leaks increase the airflow seen by the ECU.


Check your spark plugs and wires. If your plugs are gapped at more than .28, that could cause the issue. If the plugs are not normal NGK's (BPR_ES or BR_ES) replace them because other plugs, such as the fancy expensive ones, do not work in these cars.

They call for BPR6ES stock, but many people put in colder plugs after they start modding the cars, such as 6's (BPR6ES), or the non-projected tip ones (BR6ES or BR7ES).

Learn to take advice from people who know a lot more on the subject then you. And are you referring to the stock gauge as the "turbo guage" ?

It probably *is* a boost leak. Just because your gauge needle is moving, doesn't mean air is not escaping somewhere.

One thing that comes to mind . . . do you have a hose running from your BOV back to your intake piping? If not, the BOV might be leaking when you are accelerating, causing the bucking.

Even if the boost gauge was a real boost gauge, it's still a boost gauge not a boost leak gauge. More often than not you'll still build full boost with a boost leak.

I had the same problem do a boost leak test I had a small leak and my tps wasn't reading wot I fixed the leak and changed the tps and wow she runs awesome now

alright..me and my buddy are ###### gonna check the spark plugs and all the vac lines tomorrow and see if it is a boost leak..

Replace the plugs and wires, use NGK BPR6ES gapped at .028" and the second-best plug wires your local shop sells.

i was going to replace the spark plugs and wires.. and how come with these cars they have to use a speical kind of spark plugs?
