Ok I bought a fel pro gasket set when doing my timing belt and head and everything. Now when I installed it last night it didn't say head side or cylinder side or anything. I already have it torqued down and everything else put on but a couple odds and ends. I couldn't sleep all night because I think I put it on upside down is there anyway to tell? Or does anyone have a pic of the fel pro headgasket and can show me which side is suppose to be on which. Also on the timing belt kit that I purchased cause I purched the whole kit. The water pump is a timing belt driven pump and I can clearly see that mine is not driven by the timing belt.

This is the 4th a engine correct if so there should be a tab with a rivet sticking out on the rear corner on the driver side of the head. There's really only one way it goes did all holes line up including oil galleys if so then you have nothing to worry about. If you can't remember then put everything together but the valve cover and turn the engine over if oil squirts from both ends in a stream then you should be OK.

As far as the water pump and as far as I know they only sell them with the timing belt gear on it this gear is pressed onto the pump.

I'm going to assume your working with a 4g63 engine, correct?

The head gasket isn't easy to mess up. There's 2 alignment dowels on opposite corners of the block and 2 matching holes in the gasket. If the gasket was flipped 180, the oil/coolant holes would be obviously misaligned. Did you use a composite or MLS gasket? If MLS, look up a picture and compare the exposed rivet locations.

The 4g63 water pump is driven by the accessory belts while the 420a pump is driven by the timing belt. So if your pump has a gear pressed on then it's definitely wrong. And if the pump is for a 420a, the timing belt and components probably are too.
