96 eclipse gsx turbo lean

I just recently purchased a 1996 eclipse Gsx...it has a talon motor in it so it has a talon t25 turbo...my problem is the turbo gauge says its running lean...and the oil pressure gauge doesn't work...sometimes the gauge for turbo will go from lean all the way to high and then all the way back to lean...and the car idles kind of high...any suggestions help please...

The Talon motor is the same as the Eclipse motor, all 2G DSMs came with the T25.
The "turbo" (boost) gauge doesn't show you your air fuel ratio, it shows you what the ECU thinks you're running for boost (based on airflow). When it's at the top, the ECU thinks you're in boost, when it's at the bottom the ECU thinks you're in vacuum.
Most DSM oil pressure gauges don't work, buy an aftermarket.
You need to do a boost leak test and various other tests for your idle. Use this link:

I'm new to this website..it was my first post...I have an aftermarket gauge...it doesn't work...and I already did that...its not a boost leak...and it always sits at lean...no matter how fast I'm going or anything...it just randomly pops to high and shoots back down...it does it sitting at a light or driving...
 
CLEAN YOUR THROTTLE BODY... i dont understand why people in this forum never say that... think about it... your egr is recirculating exhaust gasses into your intake... exhaust is not a clean thing... its actually a high percent carbon... my car has 120000 miles and i took off the intake elbow and opened the throttle... FILTHY... absolutely gross...

and the kicker is that its so easy to do and SHOULD be part of your general maint.

the procudere printed directly from alldata (simplified)

1. remove elbow attatched to throttle body
2. put tape over the two holes at the botto inside the throttle body
3. spray the hell out of it with carb cleaner (go play with yourself for 5 min.)
4. wipe out with rag and reasseble
5. start car and rev until you can get a decent idle....
6. let idle for a few...
7. repeat if necesary

after driving a day after doing this i usually like to disconnect the battery to reset the pcm

The guy I bought it off of told me he put a new tb on it...but it wouldn't hurt to check...thanks ill look when I get home...I saw somewhere that changing my intake manifold gasket would fix it?? Also there is a hole in my flex pipe...would that cause any of this?

If you bothered to read the link I posted you'd see it does tell you to clean your throttle body. Why doesn't anybody ever read links on this site? I don't understand.

Once again, 96eclipsegsx56, you really need to stop posting and start reading. You can try answering my post a little better so I can attempt to further help you, but I can't make heads or tails of what your last two posts mean, so try again please.

Is your A/F gauge wideband or narrowband? If it is wideband, what actual AFRs are you seeing?
Did YOU do the boost leak test? How much pressure did it hold for how long?
Did you read the link I posted?
Did you go through it all already?
If there's a hole in your flex pipe, depending on what your A/F gauge is connected to, that could cause lean readings.

Sounds like your A/F gauge is a narrow band, they're worthless. Also the Eclipse turbo engine and the Talon turbo engine are the same exact thing. You should have done a bit of research before buying these cars, they tend to be touchy and if you don't educate yourself you'll be on jackstands in no time. Even our most experienced members tend to have broken DSMs for weeks or even months at a time.
 
ok i cleaned the throttle body...still idling at 1100-1300...sometimes it will drop to 900 but it seems like it wants to stall so it goes back up to around 1100...i have done research before i bought one...ive been looking at them for about 3 years now...thanks tho...ok its obviously narrowband...all it is is a set of lights...how hard is it to install a wideband? and where can i get the kit? the AFRs im getting are 2 red lights all the way on lean...i didnt do a boost leak test...i read the link...i think im gonna buy a new flex pipe and see if that fixes the lean readings...should i bother changing the intake manifold gasket or no?

You can get an AEM UEGO on ebay for $170, I recommend getting one. They're actually very easy to install, I recommend a down pipe with a bung welded onto it, make sure that you install it before you catalytic converter to get the most accurate readings. If you don't have a down pipe with a bung welded onto it people tend to use it where the front O2 sensor goes, this works but some people say it causes problems with the lifetime of the Wideband O2 sensor.
