I have a 96 gs and got another motor from the impound yard from a guy I know.I know its definately not a 95 but I know its not a late year 96 either because the sensor plugs were different then my 96.Is there any numbers or identifying marks on the motor that would let me know what year it is.

The year that sucks... OH WAIT! thats all 420A's

Could be 420a out of another car. Chrysler used that motor in just about everything that's why there's so many of them in the junkyard <<< Hah

Why didn't you ask the pull yard?

EDIT: shoulda just done a 6-bolt swap. The extra reliability would paid for it in itself, not to mention the power and potential power

I know it came out of a eclipse. There was no front end parts on the car to identify the year.when I called the guy back to asked him what year the car was and they already crushed the car cause there wasnt much left to it.The motor only had 62,000 miles.I think they have a fishy operation goin on there because he said that they cleaned out all the cars and they didn't have anymore records.

If you don't know what you're talking about, don't post (rule #3). A 6-bolt 4G63 swap into a 420A vehicle isn't feasible.

There should be a part number cast into the side of the of block. It doesn't particularly matter which model year it came from, though. Just use the sensors on your current motor. They'll all fit on your new block.

BlackMount: You're new here. Read the rules.

starfish: I'm unsure of any differencing markings, but any 420a block will work. You may need to swap sensors to make them compatible with your ECU.

The internals are all the same except for the 95 main bearings.

Learn something everyday LOL. I didn't even know there would be differences in the sensor plugs on the 420a's, except for the ignition coil either having round pins or flat pins.
