hello, does anyone out there know of a dash kit made for a '95 talon that switches the location of the radio slot with that of the air/heat knobs? i heard rumor of one out there but as much as i've searched i can't seem to find one. as yall know that damn radio location is bad with the stick shift located right in front of it and if the radio could be mounted higher up where the knobs are located it would be perfect. let me know please, and thank you much.:talon:

True, but i forgot to mention that i have a motorized panel slide out for my cd player and i was also thinking about puting a dvd player in but the shifter is in the way of the slide out area. I understand it would be custom fab but i thought there might be a website i haven't seen that has them already custom pre fabbed.

it took a while but this is what i did and i really like the outcome

i really like that set up, that bad ass. but how did you do? did you custom fab it yourself or have it done? if you did it yourself what all was involved?

i did it myself. I work at circuit city doing car stereo installations and we had a slow day without a manager so i just worked on this all day. I took out the heater and all the controls and made a plate outta fiberboard we use for our display racks. i then ground it until it fit as i wanted it to and then cut a piece of aluminum for the face of it because the wood was a little flimsy. Once i got the piece made and painted as i liked i extended the wires for all the controls into the console box. I also blocked off the heater duct with expanding foam so i wouldnt have condensation destroy my radio. I had to hammer in one of the metal supports behind the radio to make everything fit as i wanted it to as well. I used metal radio back braces to make a piece that slides around and locks the radio assembly into place so it wont fly out in an accident. I have some more pictures i can resize them and post them later if you would like.

I think that would be great even though it is not my thread. I was thinking of doing something like this but making a cut out above the radio for the hazard lights etc. do you have any pics of how it is mounted? thanks ryan

Yes, more pictures would be greatly appreciated if you dont mind. And i'm still a lil unclear about the brackets that hold the radio in the slot. and did you block the air vents enirely or redirect them? i mean, what do you do on a hot day if you lose 2 vents?

for the vents i deal with it. I personally dont like having hot or cold blowing directly on me so i generally use the floor vents anyways. Blocking that hole redirects the air to the other vents as well.

the radio brackets are the aluminum backbracing that comes with radios when you buy them its a long piece of aluminum with a bunch of holes in it. I cut a short piece and screwed it to the side of dash piece i made and i then screwed it into the wood tightly but no so tight that i could turn it. Next i pushed the whold thing into the dash (it fits tight enough that it would stay fine without the brackets but i didnt wanna trust that if i got in an accident) and i reached up around the dash (very hard to get behind it you need to have 2 elbows on each arm) . There is a little plastic rim that goes the whole way around the inside of the hole and when you slide the brackets out they catch that hole and hold the piece in place.

hey, would you be interested in kinda putting together a lil kit for me with everything i need to do this since i lack the tools to do this. you could use your stuff as a pattern so you could do it alot quicker and easier than i could. if so let me know how much money you think your time on it would be worth. thank you much.
