So here's the deal. After 10 years with my stock '96 Eclipse RS it's time for an upgrade (that and a new job which allows me to have the freedom for upgrades).
After months of searching the area, I've come across a black '95 Eclipse GSX with manual transmission and 130k miles. After a look at the condition of the car - very nice for a 10 year old - with very few details to fix (like the radio wiring harness was cut off), I went for a look at the upgrades.
It has the following:
HKS Supra Mega Flow Intake
Garrett turbo (could get close enough to ID exactly which one)
Turbo back exhaust with race pipe
Cheap Turbo Timer - eBay? didn't recognize the brand
Autometer Phantom A/F Gauge
PCV Filter mod
Short Shifter
A fun test drive later showed that it runs very well.. spools up well around 3000 rpm and pulls hard to 7000. Engine bay looked normal - wasn't degreased but definitely didn't show any leaky gaskets. Wiring looked fine except for the splice for the turbo timer. Obviously someone who wasn't serious about upgrades since the stock intercooler, intake & intercooler tubes were there. I was actually excited about how few mods were done to the car. The leather, sunroof, power windows & doors were all in excellent condition. The carpet could use replacement but I'm not complaining about it.
Now for the questions:
I did notice the A/F Gauge swing back and forth from rich to lean while driving - is this common with the Rich/Lean style gauge or possibly a faulty O2 sensor or incorrect wiring?
What am I looking for to identify which Garrett Turbo it is?
Is there a way to check the ECU for EPROM without pulling off the console if you have the radio slow to work with? (no radio in the car)
I spent about an hour looking over everything but do you have any tips on anything else I should check for?
I'm 95% sure I'm going to buy it - just want to run a CarFAX on the VIN and perform a compression test Monday. Now for the biggie.. $5750 (out the door - tax, title, fees, etc included) sound like a good deal?
I put a temp deposit down with 3 days to decide.. so the car is mine until then when I agree or not to purchase it.

I would definitely buy that. Although its high miles the cars are worth it. I bought a 95 eagle talon tsi which i hate how they look compared to the gsx for 6500. it only has 45k though but in my area the cheapest gsx that has that low miles is 14k.. i found one with 110k for 9k.. so i just went for the talon.. cheaper and less miles. however if i saw a deal like the one u found where i live i would of definitely bought it. gsx's are definitely nicer than talons.. this coming from a talon owner.
Talons are sweet. You do realize the only real differences are the bumpers and tail lights right?
