I'm new to the DSM world. Have 2 gsx's a 98 and just picked up a 95 donor. The motor in the 98 is not running right, it is over heating and around 5lbs of boost is cutting out. Changed the Cam Postition sensor because it was throwing a code, this didn't relieve any of the problems. I am going to swap the 95 motor, so I can rebuild the 98.
I have a 95 eprom w/v3 link
What sensors, transmisions etc... will I need to use? What combatability issues should I look out for?
Do I have to change the cam angle sensor out of the 95 to the 98?

The 98 motor should have a cam angle sensor on the left of the intake cam, you'll have to swap the intake cam because your 95 cam wont have a hole threaded for the sensor. Other then that it should be all the same.

True.

You could also drill and tap the '95 cam shaft for the '98 sensor (which is a silly idea when you already have the '98 cam sitting around).

OR

Forget everything about changing sensors or cams, just swap the engines and swap the ECUs (sounds like you want to use the '95 EPROM w/ Link). With that (you may have to do a little wiring to revert the cam sensor plug on the wiring harness to the driver side from the passenger side of the head), nothing else should change.

For simplicity's sake, use the matching cam sensor for the ECU, whichever ECU you choose.

In ECM link it has a check box for non95-96 cam sensor so you can use the 98 sensor with the 95 EPROM ecu you just have to swap the plug wires around alittle and your good. So in his case so he doesn't have to cut the harness I would just swap the intake cam and sensor, check the box in link swap the plug wires and be done with it.

just dont forget the 98 motor has the upgraded thrust bearings.

Twin Thrust bearings. Absolutly. Thanks for all the insight. I'm swapping the 95 into the 98 for that reason. Im going to build the 98. Hopefully the 95 is worth putting in the car, going to redo the majority of the seals and run it. Until I get the 98 built.
