Ok so just bought a 97 that had a 96 motor in it....but a rod bearing was spun. BUT it did run minus the loud clacking... This is my first dsm with that being said he told me that he did the wiring for the cam sensor and it was done right. OK... so i pulled the engine unhooked all wires labeled them and bought a 95 GST engine that has been rebuilt by a shop has all paperwork everything. Nothing performance done to it but removed balance shafts...no cams etc.. So i dropped the engine in hooked everything up turned it over it fires up for about 5 secs then dies.... im thinking its a firing order problem or something or the sort? read something awhile back that said the firing order is differnt and maybe the fuel injectors need to be switched? any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

Anybody? Just got everything in and wired up last night tried differnt firing orders but still just runs for couple secs and dies?? Thanks

No luck been messing with it for awhile now.... not sure if i need to swap plug and injectors or just plugs.... CAS is on driver side of car by cam gear may need to find right wiring for it to check over the guy before me ANY help at all is much appreciated thanks!

EDIT CAS sensor is hooked up color to color now runs for few secs but sounds shitty anything???

I had to swap head cause i skipped timming the head came off of a 95 gst witch has a diffrent CAS so i thought since they have the same wires i could splice the 95 CAS wires and run them to the 97 CAS i had no luck. When i tryed to start it it would run like you said for a couple seconds then shut off. So i decided to get a 1g CAS installed it spliced the wires and started right up. hope this helps!:D

95-96 CAS should be the same--installed behind the intake cam gear. 1g and 97-99 CAS are on the back of the intake cam (passengers side of the head), and the signal is inverted compared to the 95/96. If he already had the 96 CAS wired in correctly, you should have been able to just drop the 95 engine in and plug everything in like stock. Or like the 96 motor was.

Im pretty sure the 2g trans are the same between the years, when I did my 95 to 97 swap I had to splice the CAS in and then had to set the firing order of the motor. She ran great once that was done. Something else I would suggest it check to make sure the MAF is plugged in, and check for vac leaks also.
