We just put a new tranny in my stock 95 eclipse gst. It had been sitting for a little over a year at a friends house when i decided to buy it. It was towed to my house on a wrecker where we put the new tranny in. Now that its fixed i've been driving it around but it keeps getting really hot. The gauge goes over the hot mark. It warms up normally but just keeps going. When i idle or am at a red light, you can see the gauge start to go down, saying its cooling off but when i start driving again it goes back up. I changed the thermostat, coolant, and oil and the fans work. I was told that it had a new water pump in it also. I was also told that maybe the radiator needed flushed but when i called mechanics, they said the radiators were plastic with an aluminum core and dont clog up, or something along those lines. I really want to find out why its getting so hot. could the gauge not be working? I havent noticed the overflow boiling but i didnt really look very hard. Can the radiator indeed be flushed? or is there any other problems that could have happened from it sitting over a year? Please throw me any guess you might have at what is wrong with it.

Any radiator can clog. Did you bleed the coolant system after installing the new water pump?

Check/replace the sensor to the gauge

Also check your grounds to the dash board/gauge cluster some rodant may have snacked on one

+1 on bleeding the coolant system. If you don't get the t stat to open then you are missing all the fluid that normally runs through the block which could be why you don't see any boiling on the overflow.

I checked my sensors and one looked bad(I have a second post showing this) but drove the car on a short drive after removing the air bubbles in the system and it seems to be staying cool now and my heater works!!!! Thanks so much for the help guys, I'm glad it was a simple fix.
