so I’ve searched the forums and I do see there is a few posts about how to fix this... but nothing with any clear step by step directions, or even better a possible video?

I’m going to attempt to fix this myself so any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance

Yes sorry, it was late when I wrote this....

I pulled back on the hand lever and I do believe the cable snapped.

It's not that bad of a job if you know how to properly service brakes.
Look at your rear rotors and see if you have even wear where the pads touch the rotors. If you see rust anywhere on the rotor where the pad makes contact, that'll need attention as the pad isn't moving freely on the bracket.

Remove the cable from under the console.
Remember how the cable is attached/take pics.
Jack up the car on jack stands, front and rear is easier.
There are 10mm bolts that secure the cable underneath, some are probable rusted. Remove those and remember how they're routed.
Then disconnect from the rear brakes.
Make sure the e brake levers on the rear brakes are free and not seized.
There's a clip that secures the cable to the lever, remove that.
You also want to remove the rear brake assembly and make sure the pads slides freely in the bracket. I had to remove about 1mm on one bracket bc the pad was getting stuck.

I got mine from advanced and they're both the same length. I believe one side is a little shorter on oem cable.

The passenger side should be a little shorter. When I replaced mind, the cables were being pulled evenly so I added a shim on the p/s.
