is the head different in some way?
Yes it is... I believe the 93's have 7 bLOLt motors and the 90-92.3's have 6 bolts.. Now I'm not sure if they changed the head desing until the 2G but I konw that much..

i know about the 7 bolts in 93. i guess ill just have to pull the heads and find out.

yep, the head studs for 89-92 motors were for the six bolt design, 93 to 99 were 7 bolt design. DO NOT RE-USE YOUR STOCK HEAD STUDS. Having to redo a headgasket job is no fun at all. Buy a nice set of ARPs, they will allow you to slightly over-torque them, and have a much higher clamping pressure than the stock studs, which will be much more forgiving in high boost situations.

motor = 6bolt so use 6bolt arps. 1g heads are the same.

Really that is a good thing to know.. So a 7 bolt 1G head is the same as the 6 bolt head?? Makes my options a lot broader now for finding a head to play with... Going to do some expirimental port work and see how it pans out.. I don't have a flow bench or a CNC machining Equipment but I do have some proven idea's I want to try out on our head...

LOL. this is my fifth dsm:) i know the basics. ive never had anything over a 91 though so i wasnt sure if the head studs were the same. any time i do a timing belt on my car i take the extra hour and install arp head studs if it doesnt already have them. i torque them to 110 with the arp goop. i know its alot but ive never had a problem and (knock on wood) NEVER blown a head gasket :thumb:

Hmmmm, I am actually not 100% sure what set of studs you should use. There are different studs for year 89-92, and 93-99, but I am unsure if this is because of the head or the threads in the block. My guess is that the block threads is what counts so 6 bolt studs should work.
(six bolt engines use 12 mm size head studs and seven bolt engines use 11 mm head studs)

You got two problems. One its a 6 bolt bottom end (12mm head studs) and 93 and up head bolts(11mm) would never work in vis versa motor. You need head studs for your year block. But holes in the head of 93-99 motors are JUST UNDER 12mm. I had the machine shop drill out my head bolt holes in the HEAD so that I could bolt my 2g ead down to my 6 bolt.
