So,
I just purchased a 93 GSX that had a few issues, I managed to solve all the problems but one of them. The car drives fine under load until you hit about 4k rpm... After that it cuts out and basically just won't go at all. I figured it was a fouled plug or something, changed those out and still no luck. I am not completely illiterate with cars, but this is my first turbo awd car, so any help would be greatly appreciated! :thumb::D

Maybe the coil could be the issue? I don't want to dump money at random parts though... It seems like it is getting plenty of fuel, just that it looses spark at 4k and above. Possible boost leak?

Please fill out your vehicle profile so we can help you better. From what your describing it sounds like fuel cut.

Thanks,
The car is 100 percent stock. The thing that makes me think it is losing spark instead of cutting fuel is because you can just smell all of the fumes from the fuel that has NOT been burnt... Any ideas?

You could be maxing out the fuel injectors or Check your lines and intercooler piping. could have a leak

I highly doubt I'm maxing out the injectors. Like I said the car is completely stock. Not finding a boost leak either.

Try changing your spark plug wires as well if you haven't already. When I first bought my car it would misfire and wouldn't go anywhere at 4k rpm's and I changed my wires and it went away.

Try another BLT and keep it on there for a while. Make sure you have soapy water sprayed everywhere.

I replaced the plug wires to no avail... I'll check for the boost leak again tomorrow, but I am thinking it isn't related to boost at all now. When I have the car idling, you can hear a cut out or miss during idle as well. If it were a boost leak I would only have issues when in boost correct?
Thanks for the feedback.

You can narrow the misfire down by pulling the injector connectors off one by one (safer than pulling the plug wires) while the car is running and seeing if it effects the engine. When you find one that doesn't, you found the culprit cylinder, continue diagnoses from there.

Thanks for your help man. I got caught up on an issue with my master cylinder that I need to fix first (broke a damn stud) and then I'll try that. The only weird thing is that it isn't all of the time. Intermittent when it is idling, all the time once under load.

You are experiencing fuel cut, make sure nothing is leaking, go from you MAF all the way up, check vacuum lines, injector seals, even intake gasket can leak.

Why is it that it cuts fuel while driving, but not when I rev it in neutral?

Because you have no load on the engine free revving. Not much airflow is needed until your under load.

I have a lifter that is pretty noisy. Could this cut out issue be the timing retarding itself due to the "knock"?
