Ottawa,
I recently had a client drop in to the shop with an interesting trade, swap a 92 tsi awd for part of a complete paint job (colour change with minimum body work) on a late model jimmy. The talon has been at the shop for a month now and I've had the chance to look it over, the body is in great shape and the drive train has a few problems but over all look good for 295k. when I commented on the high mileage of the motor the client told me that the bottom end was replaced at one point because of a recall. Now I searched this site for more info on this recall and haven’t found anything.

was there such a recall ??

thanks
I would just like to state the obvious by saying that This Site Rules !!!

Are you sure its the stock engine? Maybe he transplanted another cars engine in and it had a recall before.

hmmmm!! very curious. this guy is a very good client and I trust he wouldn't lie about something like this. maybe the crank, con rods, and/or bearings were recalled? or it could just be that there was a factory defect and he got a freebie bottom end cause of it!

I asked him for details about it but he as no clue what was wrong with it, just that the bottom end was recalled.

Maybe it was replaced under warranty work, I have read the recall list many times, never heard of anything close to it. Maybe you have later 92' with the 7 bolt and it walked within the warranty period and was replaced. They didn't issue a recall on crankwalk.

That would be a very good possibility. I'll have to research the vin # to find out if it's late 92 or not ... right? or is there an quick way to tell.

Sorry about the stupid Q's
