hey guys let me start off by saying i am a new member :) i am looking for a talon since my 300zx crapped out on me i foudn a 92 talon non turbo wich i talked down to 500 bucks it cuts out at 3000 to 4000 rpm they say its just a sensor and its a 70 doller part but i would liek the oppinions of some of the ppl on here since you all seem to know your dsms :p and i trust a forum dedicated ot these cars more then a mechanic who wants my cash and can give a shit less what do you guys think it could be ??? hopefully just an 02 or ecu
 
It could definitely be the maf. Well actually it could be a few different sensors. Or he could be lying to you completely and it could be something more serious. But Probably a sensor. Is it throwing a CEL?
 
It sounds kinda like a MAF problem. One of my friends 1g's was doing the same thing and he did a 2g MAF swap and BAM!! Ran like new.

not sure i havent looked it it but it is sitting out from of a shop i looked the shop up and i found out there not really all that good they dont lie about stuff but there not the best ppl to repair ## stuff im looking tomorrow and ill check to see if it throws a cel what code should i look for if its the MAF

could you find out how to do a 2G MAF swap for me google isnt the best for directions as i learned from a few things i screwed up off other sites :p does it just go right in or is there mods needed :p sorry im kinda new to DSMs i was a neon and 300zx guy be4 this :p the neon is similar to the eclipse and talons so im sure i will feel at home when i pop the hood :)
 
A good working 1G MAF would fix it also. You don't need a 2G MAF "upgrade" if it is NT it will not outflow the 1G MAF. To properly do a 2G MAF on a 1G you need the plug adapter, 550cc injectors or bigger, and an safc or similar. A lot of people that don't need anything bigger than 550cc injectors just put those in and the 2G MAF and it usually runs barely lean but can very.

oh yea the turbo engines i imagine would be diffrent LOL the talon im looking at is a non turbo i think its go the 2.0 dohc in it i just got a e bay gift card for x mas :p so mabey ill have to use it this weekend after i get this talon does 500 sound a little sketchy for a 92 non turbo talon my friend paid 800 for his and it was running good for a year till it kicked ohh btw the one im checkin out only has 88k miles on it

yea ill prob just get a 1G sensor and keep it simple for now the engines got 88k so i think ill save up for a tsi engine swap and try to get that in by around 100 k no point in swapping out a engine thats still has life to it :p i drive like 100 miles a day so that swap may come quicker then i think :p

how are the strut tower's?
im imagining that their fine the seller was pretty honest and open for all of my questions and told me i can feel free to poke around or have my mech look at it ive actually never checked the struts on any of my cars LOL and ive had like 4 so far LOL anything inperticular i should look for to know if there any good i never really had a problem with struts be4 so i dont knwo what to look for besides sqeeking and checking if the springs were cut if its a lowered car thats about all i know for suspension :p

LOL true would that be a little hard on a 88k motor :p i already have a led foot xD wich is how my Z had to be put to sleep haha i snapped a few teeth on the timing belt racing some asshole in a hummer trying to be cute with his 600000000 pound truck revving at me haha my engine wasnt warmed up and it was like 20 degrees so i decided #### it hes gettin owned ### i REALLY hate assholes in trucks LOL

awesome :) hopefully i find no rust the body looked nice to me but under the hood and under the body might be a little diffrent especially since i only saw pics i never woulda thaught of rust if u didnt tell me that i think im gonnahave to get a check list for this trip LOL im getting tired of getting bad suprizes with cars when i get them i forgot to check the e brake on my 300zx and the timing belt LOL the belt ended up being 100k old i found that out after teeth fell off it and it ruined the engine and i found out about the e brake when i parked on my drive way in neutral to get a piece off that the shifter was int he way of xD

I would just turbo that motor. It sounds like it already has a 6bolt and turboing that motor would be a plus. You would just have to run lower boost because it has higher compression. Just click on the search button between the forums and blog at the top of the dsmtuners bar and type in 4g63 N/T turbo you should get some forums with more info on how to do this and what you would need. That is unless you plan to build a motor while you drive it.

hmmm idn xD ill prob end up building sicne i need this 1 to get me to work and class LOL building a new one might take me away from playing world of warcraft in my downtime LOL so mabey ill just build a BEAST of a motor for it xD plus incase i end up in the same situation as my poor 300zx id still have a motor to ither sell for cash for a repair or to swap in if its almost done LOL timing belts for a DSM are proably around a every 60K replacement like most cars right i know hondas are around 80k im hoping there around that :p would be nice to have some piece of mind with an other belt not liking my driving xD
 
I replace my belt every 30,000 miles. Like you said peace of mind.
yea true :) mabey ill get mine changed while its in the shop if everythings ok instead of a nice hks catback :p so a maf would throw a code im googling it and i cant find what code it would throw :(
 
If the engine light is on you could take it too autozone and they can tell you for free what the code is and what you need.

:) sweet ill prob pick up a haynes repair manual from there 2 if they got it :p i read theres 2 timing belts on the talon WTFFF ?? LOL
 
I have heard they only check CELs if it is OBDII...
:( if i smack them im sure they will be happy to test obd 1 for me ROFL i got a strong backhand :p LOL its fine if they dont ill just go pester my dads friend at work and make him do it for free LOL 45 min drive but oh well saves me some cash gets me a good drive :p havent had one of them in a week not driving for a week suxxxxxxx
 
Why turbo that one, just buy a TSI LOL... Seriously though, buy the one you want. If you want a non turbo then buy it but if you want a turbo model, don't buy this one.
LOL well i know right now i want a non turbo since i only got 1 grand LOL but eventually once i start working on it ill proably not get enough out of non turbo LOL but the swap might be fun to work on :) it will be a pain in the ass im sure :p but ill feel better knowing i did it my self ROFL mabey i have self esteem issues :rolleyes: j/k
 
You're best bet is to find the NT sub forum and post there. I would suspect that an O2 sensor is not the source of your problems. I have literally ran without both o2's for a while and the car did not respond as drastically as that. I would start with general maintenance (spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, belts, adjust ignition timing, etc) before moving to major parts. Performance issues are usually almost always due to old age, versus anything else. That being said, the 1G ECU is definitely a source to check too (search here on how to check it).
