i am looking a t 1991 eclispe gsx. the guy ran 20 psi boost and blew the head. it has a turbo timer, and a manuel boost controller. do you think this would have caused more damage than just the head? what mods would he have done to make 20 psi, i know stock they cant do this, and the owner doesnt know what was done, any info would be greatly appriciated:rocks:

If he was running 20 psi of boost and had only those mods done, then it sounds like this guy knows nothing about his car. Sounds like the type of kids I used to make fun of in high school that thought you could just crank boost and expect to make more power instantaneously (without breaking stuff). If I were you, I'd avoid that car like the plague, and wait for something running/taken care of to come up.

take out the oil cap if looks like coffemilk it is head

the problem is i havent seen the car yet, i just wanted some info before i do, its a 2 hour trip to see it, and i wanted to know if the car is worth it. im trying to see if i can work a trade with this guy.

so wouls there be more damage than to just the head, a head i can work with but if theres more damage, i wont bother

Since the guy obviously didn't know what he was doing, it's possible he damaged some things other than the head. My concern would be the tranny since most likely he's not the best of drivers. But if you can talk the guy down on his price i would get it since it's an AWD platform ( and i'm gonna be doing most of the work anyway dave!:p )

Probably only had the MBC or else he would have let you know. Any stock dsm can be turned up to 20... just dont expect it to last long ;)

no, any stock dsm CAN'T be turned up to 20 PSI. you'll hit fuel cut before you ever get there

yeah I paid $400 for my 90 with a blown headgasket. I would be wary..if he was hitting 20psi modded or not, you know he beat the hell out of it..check everything and get him down to the 500mark or so because you may drop another 2k in it before all is said and done and the 500 will make the end blow that much softer...consider that it's an old DSM..it's gonna need more work sometime...

i bought a gs and a gst for 500 together and they both needed head work so wouldnt pay any more then 500. But i pesonly would get it because it the only modle i dont have plus awd is the shit from what ive read.

quote; The car has ~110k mi on it. The kid I bought it off said the turbo was rebuilt w/ different internals, so thats how i was pushing so much boost. But no, w/o other mods the motor cant handle it, hence the blown head. thats what the gut told me, what do you think??

So I Decided Against Getting The Car, Thanks For All The Info Guys.

i've never heard of a 14b pushing 20psi anyways..mine had a blown h/g due to overheating..new motor, they never hooked up the cooling fan sensors..duh..their loss, my gain

yeah i figured by the time i do the head, timing belt which i know has to be done on all cars, gaskets, and fix the other problems, i could spend a little more and get a driver that i could mod.

my GSX with a T25 lost the HG from that... improperly installed MBC let it go to whatever it wanted. First time I blew it

yeah, but you still will hit fuel cutout. the computer reads howmuch are you are pushing into the engine, if you have too much air, the mas says nope not giving you that much fuel. you need gigger fuel rails, and need to set your computer so you can run that much boost. so this car obviously had more done to it then the guy was telling. so with that, i left the car. if i am wrong on any of the things i said, you can pm me.
