is there a way to tell the difference between these years without opening them up??? from what I read the 93-94 have the larger hub and slider and can be double syncro'd

Paul, what would be the difference/advantages in a double syncro unit?

Well....the double synchro 2nd provides alot more synchro friction surface. Improves shifting into 2nd. Disadvantage is the larger hub 3/4 is known to break vs the older units. In a mild streetcar you would get larger synchro for 3 and 4. 95 up are this style and for my purposes work great for me

Thanks Paul.

92.5+ has a large dia 3/4 synchro, and you can machine the gears to use the double synchro from 2nd gear on them. Similar to how some have done that for early second gears. The problem with it is the 3/4 slider is thin and can break. I've not had one come into my shop with a broken one, but most steer away from the 92.5+ stuff for that reason.

I'm very curious where the model year split is. I know the parts split for most part was in April but if that isn't the model split also it stands to reason we would see 7 bolt 92s or 6 bolt 93s etc. I was really never sure. So many things changed right at April 1992 I figured that must be the model year split.

Mid year 92 is when they changed to the large 3/4. it's gray though. I've seen virgin looking 93 trans's with the early stuff.
Yeah same for 6 bolt 7 bolt, brakes, and 4bolt rear. If I recall. That's why I said it must be the model year split but we've seen people report other stuff.

Not can be. They are double synchro 2nd.
sorry I was not very clear, I am looking to double synchro third and fourth gear. and I think in 93 they switched to the larger hub/slider combo??? only as this cause I have 3 spare 23 spline trans and trying to figure out when they were built. I believe just running the vin number on the trans is the easiest way to go now
