So what I have on my plate is...

I found something that'd a I'd like to do... but I need a little advice.

I have a perfect 4G63T.... and found a VERY nice '90 Talon TSI FWD... but the Talon is misisng the engine.

The engine I have is a 91' from an AWD. It's completed. Fuel rail, sensors, whole 9 yards.

The Talon is completed, wiring, ECU, everything minus an engine and the Turbo was cracked so I wasn't worried about that. I have a 16G to slap on anyway.

I've read a few things that are starting to make me want to drop this idea, and I know there are a few differences in the year models... but aren't all of the engines the same? It's a 6bolt... as 90-mid 92's were....

Can I not just drop the complete Engine in the Talon... hook everything up, slap on my turbo, and be on my way?

If not.. what all do I need? T_T;

Here's the difference's\What you need.

1990 1G DSM's have different sensor connectors then 91-94. also 92-94 was 7 bolt.

You would need the 91-94 Wiring harness but for a 6 bolt (I do not know if the 6 bolt wiring Harness is different from the 7 bolt. and there are 2 wires on the ECU that need switched around if your using a 91-94 ECU with 1990 Engine or Vice versa. Pin 6 + 14 need switched around.

What I would suggest doing is get a 91 Wiring Harness, 91 ECU, and drop it in, if the wiring harness doesn't replace the ECU Harness\Plug(s) then just switch the 2 Pins I told you about.

OR

change out all the sensors\plugs that are different in 91-94 to 1990. some are still the same, but others arent for example the Power Transistor isn't the same, and the CAS plug isn't the same, however the MAF plug is the same.

OR just find 91-94 sensor plugs for the whole engine and splice them into the 1990 harness....

Either way it will be work, but I think the first or 2nd option i told you about would be the easiest IMO.

So.... just get the Harness and ECU along with the 4G63T that I have... replace those in the 90... and everything should be kosher?

BTW... 90-92 are 6 bolt. MID-Year 92 they switched to 7. My N/T is a 92 6bolt made the last month that they made 6 bolts.

The coil pack is also different.

Gah.. @_@

Well.. since the 90' Talon has the complete harnes and everything, and the OLD engine is there (just blown to hell) Couldn't I just swap the existing hardware over to the 4G I have? o.o

I guess I'm a little... uneducated in the differences and the extent that this is going to be..

Sure can. And if any of the sensors are bad you can just splice the wires, not hard stuff at all just a little time consuming.

Time is no matter. I'm patient. Just like to know what I'm getting into.

Thanks. ;D

My current car is a 1990 awd talon, and i took the motor out of my 1991 fwd talon. Just use what is in the 1990, and go with it. Use the oil cooler off of the 1990 and the thermostat house, throttle body, coil, transister, and the proper flywheel, fwd and awd flywheels are different. Make sure you put the tach filter on the new motor, it looks like a large capacitor that is on the back of the intack, if you you don't then your tach will not work. If you have any questions PM me, and i can look at my car. :thumb:

Also you have to use the fwd motor mounts, the awd are different.
