Anyone know if the pilot motorsports short shifter sold on dsmotorsport for 1g's is of any good qaulity?
 
I have one and I love it! Installation was a piece of cake too! And I just installed a Symborski(sp?) shifter bushing kit and holy hell, what a difference! So crisp and easy to shift. The only down side I would say is that 1st gear is kind of far over compared to where it use to be and now with the plate bushing kit for some reason the shifter rubs on something so it kind of makes down shifting into 2nd and 1st gear hard if you try and do it fast. But no problems up shifting. I also plan on putting roller blade bearings in place of the cable bushings too. Over all, great product!

I know the 90 and 91-94 shifters are way different, so what are my options for a 90 short shifter. Is my only option the vfaq about taking the gvr4 mofogus shifter and making a shim? I really don't want to have to swap a 91-94 shifter base and cables in.
 
Cut a piece out of the middle of the shifter. Then weld the top back to the bottom.Now you have a home made short shifter.
 
I don't know of any that are made for the 90's. Two other things you could do are, put a shift knob off of a gallant on it. They shorten it some because of how big the 1st gen shift knob is. Cut the top of the shifter off and put one of the shift knobs (the ones with three allen screws that hold it on) from say autozone on it.
 
Take out the rubber washers that the whole shifter assembly is mounted to and put in steel ones. Also if you want you can use a golfball as a shift knob. This is what i did. works great.
 
that shift knob looks sweet. I was going to get a 2g one, but that looks alot nicer. I just don't want a chrome led flashing one ya know.

aright i noticed that 1g shifters say they will not work with a 90 eclipse. and i read that the brackets diffrent from 90 to 91. but some of the vendor sites say that you can make it work. i really hate long shifters. does any one actully have pictures of what you need to do to make a short shifter work in a 90 tranny? i couldnt find these in a search

im coming from mustangs which have a very nice throw once the stock one is turned to a paper weight. but if its gunna screw up the trans im not doing... thats what the lightning is for...

JNZ tuning makes one that will work for 90's and won't kill your tranny. A short shifter isn't going to kill your trans. It's not redoing the shifter stops that will. If you don't you run the risk of over extending a shift fork and having it break off.

http://www.dogboxracing.com/ also modifies the stock shifter to make the throw shorter and redose the stops too.

The stock knob on 90's are horrible. I just read in another thread about a fully compatible 1990 short shifter. I'd google 'Extreme Technologies'. It's on that site for 98 bucks I think. Comes with a stiffening kit as well.
