Hey guys i know this is going to be a dumb question but what exaclty is the difference between 6 bolt and 7 bolts engine? I'm going to be buying a new motor in a couple months i guess and i keep seeing 6 bolt.. what is the difference?

6 bolt is stronger, less prone to "crank-walk"
also, has lower compression pistons, higher flowing head and manifold
"6" bolt and "7" bolt referres to the number of bolts holding the flyhwheel to the crankshaft.
do a search and you will come up with tons of good info

A swap isnt as easy as you may think.
There a lot of stuff to change
You will need almost a whole 6bolt parts car to do the swap correct
If your not real knowledgable of these cars and motors i wouldnt attempt it.
Judging by you asking the difference between a 6 and 7 bolt your not ready to do this swap.I have seen a few ppl tear a good running car apart sell there motor then start buying parts for the swap(not knowing what all they needed)
Long story short they never got there car running again
They ended up selling them
Not doubting you or anything. Just want you to know you might get yourself into something your not ready for.

Also if you're planning any kinds of mods, note exactly which engine type they're for. Not all parts are interchangeable between the different types, despite theire looking similar. 6-bolts engines were used in the earlier DSMs, from at least 90-92. I'm not completely certain above those years. Yes I am aware I'm not the most knowledgable person, nor do I claim to be. I hope that helps you man. I have heard tales of crankwalk in the 7s so I made sure I got a 6 bolt before I did my rebuild. Good luck.
