Anyone thats done a swap on a 2G with a 6bolt what are you using for your lower rad hose? Now I went from an auto to a manual at the same time so this could be my problem but I have a JDM 6bolt in my car now. I re used the old lower coolant hose I just trimmed it but the shifter weight hits the hose in 4th gear and makes my car pop out sometimes so I was wondering if there is a diff PN for the manual trans hose with a tighter bend or if the JDM motor has a differnt coolant return I will have to mess with ? Pics are appreciated.

Hi, When I did mine I had the same problem. I went out and bought a 1G lower hose and that fit alot better - But it still made contact with the shifter linkage which I didnt like. So I went over to car quest and they let me go in the back room and pick one out. So I compared the 1G one to the others and I knew that I had to get one with more of a 80 degree bend or so in the first bend (from the radiator side). I dont know what kind or car the rad. hose goes to but I can take a few pics for you and post then up in a few. BTW you can buy flex radiator hoses but they are kind of expensive and usually special ordered.
EDIT: The lower radiator hose the same on autos/manuals and the water pipe location is the same on JDMs as 6bolts.

Not really interested in hacking my counter weight off. I will try to do some fitting if I come up with anything I will post some pics in my 6bolt swap thread.

Hack the counter weight off. Doesn't everyone do that when upgrading to a 16g in the 2g anyways. I had to chop it off to make clearance for my intercooler pipe, and i couldn't tell a difference at all. then i use my 2g hose slightly trimmed for my LR pipe.

you will need to cut it off when you do 6-bolt swap and if you are using 1G lower radiator hose, it will make shifting into 2nd and 4th difficult(it will pop out), until the hose gets warm and flexable.

I bet that has to feel different when shifting. How do you like it?

I didn't notice any difference from when I had the 7bolt in there. It was harder to get it into gear with the counter weight there after I did the swap, so I cut it off, then it felt like stock again.

I got a hose for a 1991 eagle talon turbo, manual from carquest - that's just how they had to look it up. the hose fits fine on my 2g and doesn't hit the counterweights really at all. my problem is that my j pipe hits it though so i'll modify that later. I was thinking about getting one of the universal flexible hoses though to see if it could be routed differently.

Try loosening the clamp closest to the motor on the lower radiator hose (1G) and twist the curved part away from the linkage and then release the clamp to hold it in place. Play with this method until you get it into a position that doesn't catch on any gears. :thumb:

All fixed easy fix too :p switched to GM syncroshift and my tranny shifts like budda hahah that stuff is awesome! No more crapy shifts nice clean smooth ones now. :thumb:

NO!
I am still running mine with the counter weight. As a matter a fact, I shipped my trany to shep to do the race build up on it and asked him about it. His exact words I belive were "remove it if you want to change your sincro's again". All I did was I poped my front motor mount off, removed the plate that mounts to the trans and I cut the little lip off. It gave it just enough room with the 1g lrh.

I wouldn't cut the weight off. Just push the hose fully on to the water pipe and rotate it a bit if needed. The 1G hose fits without altering anything.

Funny. My counterweight is still there and I'm still using the stock radiator hose and I have no issues. I have heard that cutting the weight off is a simple fix though.

although i have little to no experience in 6 bolt swapping, i would have to agree that cutting off the counterweight is not a good idea. i would do what zach said go to an auto parts store like carquest or auto zone and explain to the guy what youre trying to do. theyll probably have no clue what your talking about and say ummmm do u want to look out back for something? thats when you and him go outback and u get to see the millions of different bent shaped radiator hoses. hell when i needed a longer rad hose for my bov return tube they let me go back there and pick one out i thought would fit best. :dsm:

I just cut the weight off on mine and used my stock hose. No problems for me.

The mass of the counterweight aids shifting, so cutting it off should be reconsidered.
Since the hose fits (barely but it does) without altering the car in any way, there are two reasons not to hack on your car.

Thanks GSX mine looks exactly like that in the pic I just trimmed my 2G hose though. Looks good. I just switched to GM syncromesh and mine shifts perfectly now. Stays in 4th no probs.
