I have a 6bolt in my 98 gst and the radiator hose hits the linkage to the shifter so it makes it really hard to shift. How can i fix this or am i suppose to use a 1g radiator or get a modified hose.

I know the 2g radiator is bigger then the 1g, which won't allow it to fit inside of the mounts. I was going to use a 2g radiator, but it wouldn't fit. I have the same problem with my 1g lower hose, it rubs on the linkage. I would just say to find a hose that is angled a little bit different.

zip tie it to the front motor mount it will make the lower 1g radiator hose move a few inches so that it will give just enough room for the shift linkage. thats how i did it and it works. you could also cut the shift linkage too if you want you don't need that black piece

I had this problem also..I had cut the hose the first time..and it was a pain in da azz to shift..then I got smart(of course after the hose blew..LOL) I put the same hose that the 2g awd call for and it works GREAT now...your having problems?? THats odd...

so your saying the 2g gsx hose will clear the linkage from the 6bolt to the 2g radiator.

Problems coming from a DSM, ha never would have thought ;)

Some people modify there own hose and some people cut the counter wieght off the shifter. I have the cut counter wieght with a 1g radiator hose. Some poeple will say don't cut the counter wieght some will say do it. Your choice.

grab a sawzall...cut the counter weight and you'll be alright....I don't have any shifting or rubbing issues and I can't remember if I used a 1g or 2g lower hose...but I don't have any rubbing on my 95 TSi with 6bolt

How will it feel different without the counterweight? I also have this same problem. :dsm:

It doesn't really 'feel' different...it really helps if you're making your own short route fmic pipes because it cleans up the area right there...

I used the 1g hose and cutting the counterweight made a HUGE difference in feel. But that's only because I've been driving for over a year with the counterweight on and getting resistance from it pushing against the hose. Actually, I just cut the counterweight off this morning...now 2nd,4th, and R go in like buttah!

I used a radiatior hose froma 89-91(give or take) chevy lower hose. It fits better than perfect. Of course I had to cut a little, not much though.

did you still have to cut your counterweights with the hose from the 89-91 chevy or did you have to cut the hose?
