60mm ebay wastegate as a cut out 65+ whp gain

I run a boostdriven turbo header, super HX40, 50mm in 50mm out external wastegate off the turbo header with a 14" long external dump tube, true 3" turbo back with no cat to a Apexi N1 straight through muffler, ebay 60mm in 60mm out wastegate as a cut out right in front of my oil pan, and a tapped manni for e-map (back-pressure)

Yes 50mm external wastegate. I don't think its as loud as an open down pipe but once everything opens up it gets loud. One thing I noticed after running few different external wastegates, the bigger the wastegate the quieter it is.

Interesing! I have full 3" with a apexN1 exhaust and now with this idea , i could add a resonator to quiet my lady a bit :D

Thanks for your response to my question about whether or not it needed to be welded and/or how I could implement to my system.

You have any data comparing the 60mm wastegate when it's open and closed without any changes? The comparison you have is with other changes made as well. This is very interesting.

My laptop crashed so I lost all my old logs from before I put this cutout on. I guess I could take the hose off the wastegate and see what it does without making any changes to the tune but I already know what its going to do. My exhaust pressure will go up along with egts. I'm running HX52 now so not using that cutout will definitely hold back some ponies.

And I thought I was the only one... I like your setup better. I had space issues on mine. Your gate looks smaller than mine. Are the inlet and outlet 60mm on that gate?

4" to a 2.5 muffler. 60mm cutout.

Actuating with shop air. Also cut several links out of the spring and heated it with a torch to weaken it. Opens up around 5-6psi.

The one I have is a 60mm in and 60mm out, the spring I have in it opens about 14 psi, I like it that way so I don't have to hear the cut out at lower boost where its useless anyways. This is a good idea and it works well.

What brand was it? I couldn't find any 60mm in and out on ebay other than the huge godspeed units. (took them 3 tries to get me a working valve too)

I hear you on the higher opening point. If you plan on running 30-40lbs like you do it makes sense. I'm running big cubes and a big turbo so I need mine to open early.

I plan to do this in the very near future. I can get a tial 60mm for cheap and I'll be running it where the stock oil filter location was. When I dynoed my car we were seeing the same issue with power and torque falling off at 7k+. I hope to pick up some more power with no other changes other than the cutout and a retune. I'll report back with some photos once complete.

Any updates on this?

This is a great idea. Something i will definitely be doing in the near future. Although i will likely put a MAC valve between the boost source and wastegate, wired to a switch in the dash. This way i can turn it on/off when i need to. Only problem i can forsee is that heat has been known to kill MAC valves so ill have to insulate it. Thanks for the idea.
