6 bolt swap tb tensioning

hi,

since i'm doing a 6 bolt swap, i had to put on a 2g motor mount. my machine shop says that the hole for the special tool does not line up with the tension arm bracket to compress the tensioner, i do not know why they have to compress the tension its a brand new one with a pin in it already.

i have read the 1g in a 2g swap. and it states that it doesn't line up. is it necessary to have that (long special tool/battery bolt modified) to proceed to apply tension on the belt?

i have read all the timing belt tensioning vfaqs and tensioning threads and haven't found an answer yet. Anyone have more insight?

Did you grind away at the water pump a bit? And did you grind off the parts of the tensioner arm that need it?

I never use that battery bolt to tension the belt. If your careful and make sure the correct gap size is between the tensioner and the arm piece that touches it is the right gap size you will be just fine.

Sounds like your machine shop of choice has little or no expierence with Mitsubishi 4G series motors. Perhaps it is time to find someone else.

It should not be your job to inform the machine shop of what and how to install a timing belt. If they do not know, it is because they have not done it, and/or are unwilling to learn.

my machine shop has done many of them where i live. but this is their first 6 bolt swap motor. thye have grinded away @ the motor mount and everything. i got my motor back and they modified some other things so i can use the stock special tool. thanks for the answers.
