I couldnt completely find the answer, only partially, but which engine mount brackets are used for a 6 bolt swap? Do I reuse all the brackets from the 7 bolt, or do I need to use some from the 6 bolt?

Thanks

The generic answer is to use the mounts from the car the engine is going into.

The specific answer -- for a bolt-up affair, the 2G mounts MUST be used in a 2G car. Remember, 1G engines have the front and rear roll stops bolting to the engine block. The 2G cars have the front and rear roll stops bolting to the transmission.

That is correct. Use the 2G mounts if you're putting the 6 bolt into a 2G. You WILL also have to modify the driver side engine mount so that it fits on the block and allows clearance for the water pump.

1G cars have the roll stops mounted to the engine block. 2G cars have the roll stops mounted to the transmission bell housing. What's not to get by that? Mitsubishi saw fit to move them over a bit. However that means absolutely nothing when swapping a 6 bolt into a 2G. All you do is remove the mounts and use the 2G mount setup.

Sorry, but its not obvious to me, but since the 2g mounts will be used, that means the 7 bolt engine brackets must be used, correct?

Not necessarily. I'm a stickler for terminology and semantics.

In your case, yes, since you have the 2G 7-bolt engine and a 1G 6-bolt engine to deal with. In general (and I've said this many times before), 7-bolt does not automatically mean 2G. You would be in the exact same boat with a 1G 7-bolt engine in that you would need to use the 2G mounts for a bolt-up affair.

So, again, the tried and true method uses 2G mounts for any 1G 4G63 engine going into a 2G ('95-'99) 4G6* powered DSM.

AH. ok, thanks for clearing up the bracket issue I was having. Mounts are no problem and for some reason I couldnt make the connection between mounts and brackets.

Thanks all

Brackets/mounts in this instance are inherently paired. Everything related to a motor mount or bracket is from 2G when swapping in a 1G motor.

For anyone else in the future, the front (exhaust side) and rear (intake side) mounts are also commonly referred to as roll stops.
