okay i'm starting a new thread because nobody replies on the 7 year old thread that i commented on so here goes. Did a 6 bolt swap on my 97 gsx with a 91 tsi awd engine. followed all of magnus and rre's instructions on it. i'm told by a buddy that it's a vac leak but i can't perform a test because the car will not run without someone constantly giving it gas. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

the squealing in the video is the alternator belt. ignore it.

I have the day off on satirday so I'll replace all those sensors and adjust them all again and see what happens.

I wouldnt just replace sensors without doing some trouble shooting. Definitly check that coolant temp sensor too.

Well that's what I meant. The biss is actually screwed out a ways now so I don't know about that one. And I'll readjust the tps and check the isc and probably just replace the cts. Thanks for the help guys.

Little update. Just went out and checked the cts and the pins are loose in the plug and the casing on the wires is split and exposing copper inside so I'll fix that plug and see if it helps any.

Hearing that you found thoughs loose wires I'm sure you found the problem. The car usually floods with gas with the coolant temp sensor disconnected. Or was it not enough...... I experienced that problem too with bad wires.

i had a similar problem with my 6 bolt swap. recheck all the wiring! i had some loose connections causing crappy/no idle. Also very interesting no cel with the cas from the 6 bolt swap i had to invert the signal into my ecu with dsmlink to get rid of it.

i'm still running my stock 97 ecu though cause i haven't been able to get a 95 with link yet. so i didn't do anything with the ecu, plugs, wires, nothing. neither magnus nor rre said to on a 97-99. i'm just confused cause if i had a CEL it would be much easier to check it and diagnose.

You dont need to do anything with the wires because its a 97. What did you use to wire the cas? Did you buy the harness or do it yourself? Thats something else to check after the idle sensors and cts.....like i said in pm..its hard for it to throw a code because its only running for a few seconds.

So update... it didn't help. I adjusted the tps, redid the cts plug, redid all the intercooler piping and it runs the same. I'm out of options. I may have to take it to the local tuner shop here and have it fixed.

I bought the harness and used it. I keep it running for a minute and it doesn't throw a code. I guess myabe redo timing?

so i redid the timing using 3 different videos i watched and got it all down to a tee. but it still hasn't changed anything. i'm thinking somewhere the machine shop messed up on my headwork so i think i'm going to pull the engine and do a build on it. unless anybody has anymore suggestions? can a bad CAS make it run like this?

Can you borror or purchase another throttle body that is known to work, and swap it in?

Also get a intake leak pressure tester. It will help you find that leak in a cracked silicone intercooler hose, instead of pulling a bunch of parts and finding the crack when youre reinstalling the piping. (It happens)

i've tried 3 different throttle bodies and the 2g that i know works didn't even work on it. and the piping and couplers are literally brand new. maybe 2 weeks old. doubt those are my problems.

I have a 96 GSX eclipse and I did a 6 bolt swap myself with a 2g head..But I also took the exhaust off to upgrade it and took out all my 02 sensors, and put my w/b where my upstream sensor should go. I swapped my maf same prob, did a boost test no luck checked the tps same thing, ordered an oring for the biss screw for $5 from dealer going to put that on I also am going to test my iacv but I have a spare if that is not the problem.

Basically I did the swap and I just put my 3in turbo back on it. And it still dies right after I start it and I have to give it gas..if I were you I would definetly check your 02 sensor espiecially the one before the cat.

my 6 bolt swap is doing the same thing .I have to give it gas to keep it on cant get an idle out of her what to do im stuck just like u

we had figured out my problem. my brother who was helping me with the rebuild of the engine put the bolt intake manifold gasket on instead of the 6bolt so i wasn't getting a good seal and it was sucking air like crazy. so we put the correct gasket on and it started up and ran just fine. major vac leak in my case. i'm not to sure on either of you though.

do you have link and a 95 ecu? as far as i know the 96 ecu is not eprom and cant be converted. and in the 2ga you need to invert some things for it to run right.

sounds like you maf went out thats what happen to mine when i found out the power wire was cut solder it back and she ran fine now i just have a high idle until warm becasue of my bad iac that im throwing a code for
