2G 6 bolt block 2g head in manual 2G GSX

I am new to dsms I don't know if I am complicating or over thinking but. I am doing a 1g block 2g head conversion and putting it into my manual 97 gsx. Can I use a galant vr4 block to do conversion from what I am reading there is a sohc and a dohc, I am bout to purchase a vr4 block and don't want to waste money

A GVR4 block should be the same as a 1G DOHC version. There should be nothing different between this and any 1G in a 2G engine block swap.
