6 bolt 2g Setting datalogger or scantool

Hello,

Is there a way to set the timing on a 2g with a 6 bolt without a datalogger or scantool?

I ordered a scantool off ebay, it should be here soon. however, I'm wondering if there is a way, or should I set the timing on a safe number like 5 btdc until I get the tool?

By the way, when I plug in the timing light, I am unable to see the TDC mark that I put whiteout in. I think i might be on the other side for some reason.
How can that be?

by the way I do have a borrowed scan tool. However, it doesn't show me timing. Should I have this tool plugged in when setting the timing like for the BISS adjustment or no?
