5th gear pops out..and wouldnt go back in

my 5th gear has been popping out for a couple weeks now wheneve i let go of gas. tonight as i was comin home from work on the freeway...it popped out and when i tried to put it back in but it wouldnt. so then i had to drive home in 4th gear. i heard some strange noises coming from the tranny.

when i got home i put the car in 5th and the car didnt die with the clutch out and just revved when i gassed it...still noises. i then went to look under car...two things fell off from under the tranny i think and it was near the tire. i went back into the car and put the car in 5th gear and this time it worked...so i duno what the hell was wrong and what fell out of my tranny. i also saw tranny fluid leaking a lil..like little drips.

think its time for a new tranny?

ok i looked at the tranny today and found this. i guess its the tranny cover or watever u call it broke off. would that affect anything? its still drivable tho maybe i shoudnt.

and in the secound pic..that thing i circled in red, when the car is on it sits on the thing in the middle and rattles.

happens alot... u lost massive amounts on tranny fluid there... and i believe that nut thingy is what holds 5th in place... i had it happen in my 1.8, bought a tsi awd like that and my buddy's 3kgt had it happen... yeah u might wanna go get that looked at... u lost lots and lots of fluid

besides that their is a HOLE in your transmission case....looks like your fifth gear is off and bouncing around....

What are you crazy, of course you shouldn't drive it like that.

You need to replace the end cover and that massive nut. It needs to be torqued and staked. Then pray you didn't do any further damage to your tranny from driving it with that huge leak.

At first I thought that was your throw out bearing. Gonna say theres a little more than just some noise if that fell out. ! Trust me, I know.

edit: fullthrottle... how do you have a gs-t and run a 13.2 @ 90 mph ?

i misshifted 4th gear and just cruised in. i trapped 101 the run before when i ran 13.7.
