5th calling it quits!? Transmission problems on the way?

Either way it might have been doing this for years... but today on the highway I noticed that when I give my car gas in 5th that it almost throws it out of gear (I was holding the shifter resting my hand there and felt it kick out.) out of interest I tried to hold it in there lightly while giving it gas to see if it would stay... didn't. So I tested the rest of my gears the same way and they don't move at all... so I know its not the engine mounts or anything like that causing the problem. Could it be a fork starting to get bent or lazy? Who slam's 5th gear? I know I don't. Either way if I give the car 50% gas, and hold the shifter in place, it feels like its triyng to buck it out of place over and over again. It moves almost a 1/4" ... easy to see... scary for me to watch. Figured I would post a open thread and make sure its ok.,

Try some transtune, by seafoam. Stuff works great, try that first.

What are my other options besides simply throwing transtune in there? Never even heard of Transtune...

Also second grinds when the cars not warmed up (more then usual lately - its a DSM, maybe its because its been cold.) any other input?

This happened to me... ended up beaing a retaining nut that holds all the gearsd together had backed off in the tranny. Mine had literally busted ahole through my access plate and leaked out all my gear oil. I'm lucky I didn't blow my whole tranny.

Anyway, behind the passenger wheel is an access plate that you can take off to get to these retaining nuts. I had a shop do it cuz I don't know much about transmissions.

Well today I found out what the problem was!!!

My damn transmission BLEW UP! That nut that holds it together in the casing did come off!

Joking. Took it apart today and MAN am I happy I did. The upper nut wasn't even finger tight... so I spent 30 bucks on Tranny fluid and a big enough socket, instead of money on a new transmission. The nut was starting to carve into my casing, but not bad at all.

Only had one dimple in the nut holding it on... car shifts nice and smooth now - along with 5th gear operating like it should.
