Ok so my buddy and I put in a set of 560cc injectors in my car yesterday. Well we had a safc plugged in also but when we started the car, it was idling all weird and the exhaust (stock 2g AWD exhaust NO LEAKS) was thumping.

I took it around the block and the car was falling completely flat after 2k rpms. I mean i gave it more gas and it felt like it was limp mode.

we tried to compensate anywhere from -15% to -25% in SAFC for the injectors but it didn't really help. I think when i drove it around the block it was at -23%.

MY QUESTION: I'm going to reinstall them today but WITHOUT safc. I want to know if the car should still IDLE correctly (not drive) with just the 560cc injectors if there is nothing wrong with them.

Thank you

PS I know it had something to do with either SAFC or injectors because when we took SAFC off and put stock injectors it ran completely normal again.

Does it run correctly with the SAFC and 450's installed. IE does it lean out slightly if you adjust the SAFC and does it ilde properly?

Where did you get the 560's...off someone with an evo ?

Do you have anything to log with, or a Wideband?
If not I would suggest you stop modding things and wait until you can get the right tools to measure your A/F ratios.

If you have logs, post them, we'll be able to help you better. If you don't stop before you blow up your car.

Check your wiring, make sure the AFC wires didn't break or anything.
Also check the rail where and make sure nothing is leaking and the injectors are seated right. If your running a stock pump, you'll probably run out of fuel pretty quick.

You need to reset your ecu when in installing new injectors so the ecu can learn the new settings for them. If you don't the fuel trims from your old injectors will be used and it won't run right.

Leave your battery unhooked for about an hour should reset the ecu.

Let your car idle for 15 mins to adjust to your new injectors.

560cc injectors will run very rich with no compensation. Black smoke from exhaust and might stumble at idle.

To see if your SAFC is working install 450s and zero SAFC across all settings. Should run normally.

:ohdamn:

Why didn't that click in my head, I guess I just assumed he did that.

You don't have to wait an hour for a reset. You can just unplug your ECU Harness for about five minutes to reset it, or unhook you battery for five as well.

You can unplug the ECU instead of the battery so you won't have to reset any other electronic stuff like the radio stations preset and what not, less hassle.

Guess I was just thinking that you wired or messed with the AFC wires, so you had already done that.

an hour? I think ECU resets after 5 minutes. Thanks for suggestions though, i will definitely do that today.

Dont diss Ceddy LOL. He knows his computer shit...

There isn't any reason to reset the ECU after installing larger injectors. The 2g ECU updates FT's so quickly, it's a waste of time. Just use a baseline mathematical correction of -20% at the 1k and 2k Ne Points and start the car.

Did you verify that you selected the correct sensor type on the SAFC? Was the SAFC installed before, or at the same time as the injectors?

This is fun trying to figure out a car blind.

If we were there, we'd proably fix it in about 2 minutes. LOL

Heck it's a lot faster than even five mins, it might be a short as five seconds. Your just waiting for the 47uF cap to discharge.

An hour is silly.

I said a hour to be on the safe side. Back before I had my logger and I got a CEL, I would unhook my battery for 10 minutes and sometimes it wouldn't clear.

As to not resetting fuel trims, I found it helps a lot when I had my SAFC and think most people recommend it. The trims can effect the injector a significant amount.

Don't know why you had problems. I don't pull the battery terminal on my car, I just disconnect the ECU and they always clear. I don't think the 2G works that much differently here.

I agree that starting with a reset aids in tuning. It can be done either way but I find having a clean slate reduces the chance of mistakes and Duh! moments?

i havent really got around to it yet since the AFC was broken and the guy just let me borrow his for a hour to try to fix the fuel compensation which we didn't get to do because I think the MAF wire was crossed with something else.

Most likely the s-afc settings, had trouble with both mine and my friends the latter just recently, on his somehow after it was set when the battery died it re-set. Anyways, you want the car settings perfect or it will run like garbage.

Car type: 4cyl
Throttle: Progressive, or an upwards right arrow
Sensor: Karman type

If any of these three are off you will experience the symptoms you have.
