How much boost (approx) could I run with 550's, EVO3 16G and Stock fuel pump rewire?

See I have the EVO on the car already. Just wondering if this is a good cheap way to add more power? I am only running at 10PSI right now on the EVO3.

If I can run quite a bit more boost then I would want to do it.

I have no fuel control besides the stock ECU. All fuel components are stock.

If I have to buy any of that stuff, then I would just get 650's and a 250 and adjustable FPR. The idea being I don't have the money for all that stuff right now.

Do you think it's worth the effort? How much approx PSI could I run with 550/EVO3/Rewire stock FP?

I would definately think about a upgraded fuel pump before an injector swap. Those injectors are almost useless if your fuel pump can't keep up. You could probably run about 12psi at the most to be safe on the stock pump. If you upgrade the pump and FPR you can get away with 15psi.
1. Get yourself an AFPR 2. Walbro 255lph 3. Rewire the Fuel Pump 4. Upgraded injectors and SAFC

I ran 21-22 psi daily with 550's, 190pump, and e3b16g. Oh, and ZERO knock with stock smic. I now have 580's and knock doesnt even exist at 23psi. At 21psi on 550's I saw a 78% injector duty cycle on average.

I see you currently have FTS afpr (Fuel regulator?), did you have that then?

Did you have any fuel control? SAFC, etc..

Are you saying I could get 550's and a 190 FP and just adjust boost according to knock?

I looked at your mods, did you have most of that stuff then or what?

Are you using the stock BOV?

Would I need the FPR, and FP gauge?

Basically trying to find out the minnimum I would have to spend to do it, and approx how much HP to expect from the investment.

Is it true that 1b of boost is about 10 HP??

You really should get a 190 pump at least, but if you go with a 255 you will need a AFPR, like said before running 550's with stock fuel pump isn't that great cause it wont keep up.

Ok gentlemen. Here we go, 1lb of boost is usually 10hp. This however does indeed depend on the turbo and engine. However this is generally the rule of thumb and is what alot of the DSM community goes by. Now, yes, if you go with a 255 pump you will need a AFPR. If not you will be over running your stock fuel pressure regulator. The best one to get is going to be from Aeromotive. This is because it still has the 1:1 rising rate. Now, for running this set up with no fuel management besides the ECU....it is possible but it is not efficient. You will not be getting the proper tune and you will not be getting the full potential out of the turbo and the engine. I recommend getting an AFC at the minimum. It would be best to get DSM link. Hope this helps. :thumb:

what octane gas were you using and what are the outside temps? Pretty impressive :thumb:

No, I didn't have the FTS afpr when I had my 550's in but I was one of the rare cases of fpr overrun using the 190fp which prompted me to get an afpr to begin with. I am still using the stock 1g bov which doesn't lose pressure til it gets to 24psi.

I have two fuel pressure gauges just for safe measure now and for fuel tuning I am currently on the maft setup and will eventually spring for the DSM link.

Temps during the time I logged these runs were at night around 30-40 degrees. The weather changes dratically here on the Gulf Coast and I believe the high humidity in the air helps too.

As of today I ran 21psi and that was only with 4 counts of knock. I havent yet gotten my tuning right since I upgraded to 580's from 550's yet but I will hopefully eliminate that 4 counts with a little patience. I do plan to get a fmic though, just not right now. The summers here are torture and my power goes out the window around April.

Hope that gives you an idea of what mates up well with what. Dont forget a logger if you dont have one.

I moved from Seattle to Arizona this past August to play baseball at college, and I'll tell you what, SMIC= ZERO power. Even with just a T-25. It was ridiculous.
