I'm in the market for a 50trim. I'm about a week from ordering one and I'm trying to choose the right one at a good price. Internal wastegate. I stumbled across this 50 on eBay and it's only $485 shipped. That's cheaper than an E316g. What's the deal with it? Am I overlooking something?

I know eBay links aren't really welcomed on these forums but I need some help.

There are many factors that go into the price of a turbo...one huge one being the quality of the center cartridge. Also, that turbo is not going to be a direct bolt on...the flange for the O2 housing is not the same as ours so you will have to get a a custom O2 housing made with that flange.

Looks pretty small....Almost seems like the kind of turbo honda's use in their N/T to Turbo kits...If you want some good 50 trims for around that price, I would look up in the DSM classifieds and on DSM Trader for a lightly used one...

Also check out the PTE line which I think is a pretty cheap but very effective line of 50 trims...All 50 trims will be laggy because they usually have big turbo housings so if that's not for you, go smaller

Like Chris posted, the O2 housing flange is wrong for our cars. I'm sure it could be made to work but why bother.

By what is known to work, not what is cheapest. There are alot of good vendors out there now so support them as they have supported us.

First off the guy selling those turbos doens't know squat about turbochargers. Second the housings say Garrett but that does not mean the center section is. I can have "Garrett" turbos made in Taiwan for you if you want, I'll even have Made in USA printed on them if it makes you feel better.

Second have a look at this info posted on his auctions:

Brand New
True Garrett turbo
Not a cheap knock off
SPECS:
0.48 Turbone A/R With a Stage 2 Wheel
0.50 Compressor A/R
Good for over 500 hp
wastegate set for 8-10 psi

Where does it state 50trim compressor wheel other than the auction title. A .50A/R does not mean a 50Trim wheel. Thats the Area Ratio of the housing.

Here is another ad of his for a 57Trim:
Brand New
True Garrett turbo
Not a cheap knock off
SPECS:
0.63 Turbone A/R With a Stage 3 57 trim Wheel
0.50 Compressor A/R
Good for over 550 hp
wastegate set for 8-10 psi

Apparently a 57trim is the exhaust wheel.

The exhaust housing style in those pictures is the really old exhaust housing that garrett used years and year and years ago which has been out of production forever. It has since been knocked off about 10,000 times because they have been around for so long.

Do yourself a favour and buy a brand name turbo. Thats the heart to HP on your engine. Without a good turbo your wasteing your time with everything else. Thats like having a fully built motor, huge turbo etc and a factory clutch. Look at the rest of the shit in his store, knock off HKS bovs, knock off Tial Wastegates, but hte turbos are real Garrett LOL.. RIGHT...

Wow, I wouldn't know what I would do without these forums. Lol. I guess the saying is right, you get what you pay for. Too good to be true. Shit, the prices of 50trims have dropped in the past year so I thought the turbos this guy was selling may have some validity.

You could spend a grand on the 50 trim or you could buy BULLSEYES TO4b with gaskets, and both the oil return and feed lines for $700. Then either add 125 to have it internally gated or get an ex. gate and 02 dump..All together you can have a 450hp monster turbo for EVO 16G pricing

Didn't those crappy turbos from china have those 2piece turbine housings, where they would make each half and then smash them together and let them cool together and you could see the seam in them? you can see the seam on these ebay turbos too.
ZY Turbos.

Ahh crap. Not viewable without registerring. Well, here we go:

I have been noticing a lot of people have been getting ripped off on the web and even here in town on 'Garrett' T3T4 turbos. China is now making turbos that look JUST LIKE a Garrett T3T4 or T4, and they are getting shipped to the US and auctioned off or sold on the web advertised as Garretts. A lot of people are buying them thinking they are T3T4 Garrett turbos, but they are not. These ZY turbos are the worst turbo in the planet! They have a 100% failure rate and you will be VERY lucky that you can actually get the thing to spool at least once before it blows up. The wheel and housing clearance has huge gaps, the wheels are VERY poorly balanced, the turbine housing is manufactured improperly (can take only one run to crack it wide open), and just everything on them is like a toy. Here are a couple of pics. Make sure that you get a pic off the web of a GARRETT turbo that says 'Garrett' on the comp housing and not ZY. Just remember ZY= BAD. So many people have walked into my shop with this ZY turbo, and it's really sad, because they are out the $300-500 they paid for it. The turbo is a worthless piece of junk[...]

I bought two of these turbos through a group buy via a friend. In Fact, the turbo in the picture is one of the two I had bought. A cpl months later he calls me and asks if I had used the turbo, which I hadnt. He said there have been MANY failures of the turbos in the group buy, and the fellow selling them was taking them back. I had Jack check them out, and there were multiple problems with the turbos.

The Comp side and wheel gap is not even close to in spec.
The turbine wheel looks like a toy, and wasnt properly balanced
the turbine housing, as Jack mentioned, was "pre-cracked". The way they make these housings is to cast them in two pieces, and before the metal cools force them together forming one unit. The china turbo had such a poor joint that it was basically cracked already.
the bearings and hardware is a joke, and likely would not last much past startup.

I initially had thought it was a Garrett derivative myself, as MANY people make Garretts under license(nissan ford and chrysler to name a few, as well as airresearch etc), however it is not even close to the quality of a Garrett. If you see the ZY or turbo CV on turbo, leave it alone. They are all junk.

Damn, that is shitty.

I PM'ed David about his turbos. Not too many people have them, eh?

If you do get it, and when it's installed - let me know what you think. :thumb:

Definitely.. All I'm worried about is it not fitting. I don't want to replace my fans and bend the water lines.

Trapspeed did the right thing here. Always consult a knowledgable message board or call a reptuable shop before purchasing something like this on ebay. In most cases the saying is true, you get what you pay for. Its hard to catch insane deals on ebay, because you have millions of other people looking for the same deals. If something is way too cheap, there is probibly a reason why the millions of other people have passed it up too. Your not fooling THAT many people.

Doesn't the sbr exhaust mani space the turbo out a little more so no water pipe denting is nessary? although you'll proably need a diffrent fan.
