The 4K20D4T is a 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine primarily used in the Soueast DX7 SUV (2017-present), producing approximately 145kW (194 hp) and 285Nm of torque. It is part of the K2 engine series launched in 2022 by Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi (SAME), featuring DOHC, 16-valve, and MIVEC technology designed for improved efficiency.
I have been studying this motor, as I recognize that the 6 bolt is either becoming a needle in a haystack to find or a $5,000 incomplete 6 bolt project that has sat in a swamp for the past 7 years. I don't see myself heading in that direction for the future.
With all of that complaining out of the way, let's get to the information. This motor is mounted on the passenger side as a Evolution 8 would be, but the exhaust ports come out of the rear side of the engine as if it was a k series. Now with this engine being a 4g63 block, if we rotate the motor and mount it to the drivers side the exhaust would be positioned in the front exactly where we want it, the main question that I have would be if by chance the 1g DSM bellhousing may fit this motor and if not, wouldn't it be possible to have an adapter plate made? I am thinking that if mounted on the drivers side the motor should rotate in the correct direction to spin the transmission.
There is also a 4k22d4t which is a 2.4 turbo MIVEC but it only came in a RWD configuration. I am thinking it should be possible to mount this engine in a transverse fashion. If you have any insight towards mounting a longitudinal engine in a transverse chassis, please update me with your experience.
Honestly I'm ready to move on from the 6 bolt, I'm not willing to pay for the nostalgia of a dying platform, especially when an incomplete block is selling for the price of what we used to by the whole car for. I look forward to hear your thoughts and feedback.
