hello! I have a 4G69 engine. Completely rebuilt by me. New pistons (with rings), new oil pump, and rebuilt head. It runs and drives great. However I am having heavy white smoke on startup and idle but goes away when cruising (yes it smells like burning oil) as well as every other day I check my oil levels and they are below minimum. AS WELL AS A CYLINDER 2 misfire (changed spark plug, still having the issue) but still drivable.

The shop Foreman at the shop I work at, did a compression test (compression normal and within spec) but when he used a borescope to check out the internals we noticed little pools of oil literally on top on the piston (some pistons have a bit more than others and one was completely dry. He noticed that oil is slightly seeping into the intake portion of the valve (head internal) and he came to the conclusion that the intake seals were wrong/bad.

I also had a conversation with another tech. I showed him the picture I took from the borescope, and he said it could be the valve stem seals causing the issue.

How can I go about this? I just wanna fix the issue. My engine runs great just a lil misfire and the smoke. help please.

Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.4 L
What year Mitsubishi Eclipse GS?
It wasn't until 2004 that the 4th generation Eclipse got the 4G69. DSM's never did, the Eclipse Spyder GS 2.4L had a 4G64.

Your welcome here but the site focuses on the cars built in Normal, Illinois in the 10 years between 1989 and 1999. There are other websites that specialize on the later versions of the Mitsubishi Eclipse that might have more expertise if you have one of those.

I have seen forums with the same issues i have with this engine. And i have seen threads on here related to the same engine. Every time i need answers, this dsm forum has my answers. :/ so yea im asking on this dsm forum. But thanks ig

It sounds line you need to check the valve guides for damage and wear and replace the valve seals. For anyone to provide help they need to know which head were dealing with SOHC or MIVEC and that's why I was asking you to be specific.

It would also help to know why you rebuilt this engine, did it loose a timing belt? What did you do to the head when you did the work to the block?
