Hey wusup DSMers, Ive been working on my Spyder GS 2.4l W/T3T4 turbo for some time now its been quite a learning experience and luckly i have few friends that are knowledgable to keep me from making rookie mistakes.. its had some down time because of the money situation.... But thats all over i got the money saved up now and i need help on a proper set up to make my car a nice durable daily driver..

We Pulled the motor out this weekend and i wanna do this job the right way.. The set up before was sufficient but incomplete

It has a

Walbro Fuel pump
GST injector
GST ECU
HI Flo MAF Sensor
MAF Translator
T3/T4 Garret turbo
Greddy Blow off valve
Decent but no name brand manifold
Stock Pistons and internals
Stock GST Clutch( Need to see whats a good daily cluth that can Grip)
No Boost Gauge or Controller
No Turbo Timer

I dont see many people hooking up the 2.4L but its not to say that it aint doable..

Any Suggestions on what direction i should take this project is greatly appreciative.. Pics arent uploaded but if needed i can post em....:hellyeah::hellyeah:

They are many people that do turbo conversion on a 420a engine. Check out 420A Turbo Conversion - DSM Forums, they are 1,500+ threads.

His car isn't a 420A and the information will be inaccurate since the 4G64 is closer to the 4G63. I have quite a few questions and comments for you to consider and answer.

1. What size fuel pump?
2. The stock GST injectors won't hold a T3/T4 turbo's fuel needs very well I'd recommend 550cc's.
3.I would skip the MAF upgrades and keep the stock GST one.
4. Make sure you recirc. your BOV, back into the intake pipe.
5. Get an ACT clutch, they are great for the street and can still hold the power.
6. Get a good manual boost controller. And boost gauge.
7. What exhaust/downpipe are you going to use?
8. What FMIC are you going to be running?
9. How will you tune your car?
10. Since the motor is already out, I would get a good headgasket, and replace all of the other gaskets.

:thumb: Hey thanks for the response glad to have your help...

The car was previously set up for turbo

it has a 2 1/2 inch steel piping all the way to the back

the gst injectors are 450cc and ill take your advice on 550cc's

the fuel pump is a walbro 255 i hope that sufficient cause it would suck if it werent

My FMIC is in good condition i forgot the exact model but i know its a Spearco

As far as piping for the BOV and all else is assembled correctly. maybe replace some cupplings but thats all.

The Car was Street Tuned With the MAF Translator where i believe the car could not be Tuned Fully.

i Will look into the ACT Clutch you mention.. is that the most cost effective clutch that suits me right?

My Goal here is have this beauty Running as a Daily and can go the distance and as Cost Effective as possible unfortuneatly im not rolling in dough LOL... i miss having my top down hearing my engine perform.

PS: almost forgot i purchased a Full Head Gasket set with a nice Thick metal head gasket and will be replacing all the seals and gasket.

hey i just put a down payment on a 98 gs spyder and im looking like you are for atleast a decent turbo bulid with 300whp looking to spend about a 1g to 2g's on the project how is your project going and what advice can you give to another 4g64 trying to go turbo.

from what i've read, the stock internals on the 2.4 wont hold a lot of boost. i think about 11 or 12 lbs is the max on stock internals. id check out some forged internals. a t3/t4 wont even be efficient at that low of boost. you'll definitely need a wideband, surprised that wasn't mentioned. i'd skip the maf upgrades, and just run the stock gst maf. get a good afc...you can get a better tune with a afc NEO. you could get a ACT street disc for just over 100$.

maf is a Mass Air Flow sensor. AFC is an Air Fuel Controller. the NEO (no acronym, it's just the name) will allow you to control your air/fuel at more intervals than a SAFC (Super Air Fuel Controller). i think it's like 16 different points compared to like 8 for the SAFC. i am thinking about running a 14b or something small like that on my 2.4l. i think i only want to run like 9 lbs or so. having a 2.4 will make a turbo spool up a lot quicker. i have a 95 tsi i'm building, so that project is taking all my money.

yeah im stock internals on my spyder. i'm not going to dump money into my dd. figured i'd throw a 14b on with a downpipe and run a narrowband a/f gauge (since i dont plan on running much boost).

I would get bigger injectors than 550's with a T3/T4. Depending on your boost, you can still easily overrun those 550's. chances are the 550's and 780's are the same price. i have 780's and my injector duty cycle on my B16g on 18psi is about 60%.

2. The stock GST injectors won't hold a T3/T4 turbo's fuel needs very well I'd recommend 550cc's.

Yea I agree and if your using a gst ecu then get dsm link and get some pretty big injectors. One thing to consider is that like another member already stated anything below 12-14psi on a t3t4 setup just isn't going to be efficeint. Best bet is if you only want to run 10-12 psi go with an e316g setup. Just my opinion.

Engines are limited by power, not PSI. 10psi from a GT35r is tons more air than 10psi from a T25. The 4g64 rods are exactly the same as those from a 4g63T, so the 4g64 engine in theory is capable of 450hp, the same as the 7-bolt 4g63. Also, many people have bumped the compression ratio to 10:1 and higher with no ill effects. You would need to switch fuel types to keep knock and preignition at bay, but still not impossible. Not to mention you can run WAY more boost than 25psi on a 4g63 (of course depending on turbo size). Especially the 6-bolt which, thanks to Ostar Motorsports, sits at around 750whp on the stock block.

So please do some research before you bring up a 3 year old thread just to talk down to others.

The stock pistons in a 4g64 motor aren't made for boost I dont where you guys are getting your false information. They only share the same rods.
