recently bought a 97 GST Spyder having loved a a friend of mines for quite some time. VW guy through and through but man i love these cars. i bought it witha 4th gear "pop-out" problem...i knew before researchign that the shifting fork or synchro was toast...researched...yep..so now i need a rebuild ( 1000$ no install..keep dreaming) or maybe a new tranny (i live in hawaii bruddah, so a shipped *used* f**** tranny is around 1500-1800$) now im no stranger to a junkyard crawl having dived many good parts for my VW's in the yard and mostly the yard...so i checked trusty ole craigslist...in luck! a 2.4L car and a 2.0L car... the more i research the more im told the transmissions wont swap over so is the Turbo tranny the ONLY transmission i can get for my car? should i just stop whining and spend the money??? holy goat balls this problem has got me driving, calling, and spending hours on the internet researcing...HELP!!

I am almost 100% your looking for a tranny from a 95-99 GST only. The earlier 1g transmission had different mounting points if I am correct. You might consider just getting the gears you need instead of doing a full rebuild. I am not sure if it is 3/4 gear or 4/5 in these trannys. Never taken one apart.
