no 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear, gst tranny

so I picked the car up like this, when you try to shift into any of those 3 gears, its like going into neutral, and first is kinda hard to get and popped out once, its also makes a noise when you drive it, kinda hard to describe, anybody have any idea as to what it might be before I go drop the tranny?

thanks for the response and yeah, thats what I was thinking and hoping at least, really hope the actual gears arent the problem

If the transmission makes noise while driving it could be any number of things. Bearings, diff gears etc. Bearings are the most common especially on the intermediate shaft.

well i finally got around to dropping it and its the 3/4th gear slider, anyone know where i could get one? can only seem to find with the hub which i dont need

Look in the Vendor section of this website. Sheptrans can get you one I'm sure. I would look into getting an entire Trans rebuild or buying a used trans.

that would be ideal but i dont have the cash for a full rebuild or used tranny and i need the car back on the road

Buy the hub and slider as a set. If you select the right OEM part it will include the synchro rings

What's wrong with it anyway?

I would check your shift cables. If you have problems with all those gears I don't think its all in your tranny.

I blew my 3rd 4th slider and center diff, felt like 3rd and 4th were gone completely and with the car on it was as if neutral. Time for a rebuild, drain your trans fluid and watch the metallic symphony pour out.

I'm assuming the OP has already disassembled it as he stated the tranny is dropped and it was the 3/4 hub and slider.

SamxDSM, there are few junkyards not far from you (like Pick-n-pull or U-pull-it). Should be able to find used parts there for reasonable price.

Yeah i dissasembled the tranny, and the only problem i could find besides some leaky seals was the 3/4th slider was busted and rattling around. I talked to sheptrans and they can get me a new slider for $50, before i pay though, im gonna go see if any of my local junkyards have a gst. My new question though is would replacing it also fix 2nd?

No. It would not fix 2nd. If you're qualified to fix this and it seems you are, you're beter off fixing what you have. If you're not familiar with model year differences youll have some research to do if you want another trans. Even then you have a used trans.
