Hi everyone, I have a 1994 Plymouth Laser RS. It’s the 2 L non turbo FWD. I have an idle problem, when the tank is more than 2/3 full, it idles very low and stalls out all the time, when the tank is less than 1/3 full, it idles very high (3500+) rpm. Any suggestions on what to look at. I already changed the fuel filter, evap seems good. Any help would be appreciated.

First problem is it's not possible for the car to idle at 3500 if all system are working. Idle position switch (IPS) will prevent this.

You need to check that your throttle is actually closing. manually close it with your hand, check the cable tension etc. Second find out if your idle position switch is working and the ground is present from intake to firewall.

The IPS works by grounding when it is closed. It's a simple switch. ECU cuts fuel at 1500 rpm or higher IF the IPS is closed. So either the IPS isn't working or the throttle really isn't closing. After you have diagnosed this then reset the idle per factory.

Resources page is THE place to go for stuff like this.
