Would it work? Both engines use a distributor ignition system (so no major rewireing). The ECU should bolt right out of a Galant. You get the 16 valve head :thumb: and all the other bits and pieces should be the same as a 4G63 DOHC.

OK now LOL :tease: and say I need to have my head checked. But what the heck.

At least it ain't :beatentodeath:

The only way that it could possibly work is if ALL the coolant/oil passages line up. Not to mention the short studs that help to locate the head on the block and the combustion chambers themselves. All of this I doubt will come together to work. If it did, that would be a great performance upgrade for the 4G37. I used to have one and I know how little performance parts there are for the car.

the 4g63 also came in the sohc variety dubbed as the g63b. The 4g64 was also primarily a sohc engine and the head is also a direct bolt on. No need to have any concern on this matter.

Not ever doing the swap or even researching it, I cant give any real advice. I dont see where it should be too problematic. Regardless of what ecu you use, you will probably have to swap out some of the pins in the harness. And if you are thinking this way, why not just do a 4g64? You can get the engine, ecu, and 2g mas from and early 92 mitsu expo which will also be a 6 bolt. The mounts from the expo my work with the dsm, but not sure. It sounds like a feasible, effective way to swap out the 4g37 in search of more power.

aren't 4g63 SOHC's 8 valve? If there are 16v SOHC's, are they interference setups? That'd make my day if they weren't...

You could bring an old head gasket from one, go to the junkyard and test it on the other. If some of the oil passages don't match up, you can always make new ones. It's the bolt and cylinder configuration that's important. In the turbo-dodge world people put the DOHC 420a head on the 2.2/2.5 blocks from the '80s.

it requires re-routing the rear oil drainbacks and re-drilling the alignment pins. Small price to pay to get a head that flows nearly double.

They made the 4G63 in 8/12&16 valve heads along with the DOHC. The only reason I was thinking the 63 out of the galant was the early ones had the engine mounts cast into the block and in the junk yard they are a dime a dozen.

Going to have to do more junk yard searching.:D
