Recently received an old colt hatchback with the Mitsubishi 4g15 8valve motor. Is the "newer" 4g15 12valve motor an "easy" swap for this vehicle? If your only reply for me is to go to 4g61t.org then pls don't bother, just wanted to try a forum I'm already associated with before anything. Thanks.

Well for one it is gutless. LOL Just kidding. What are you trying to say by the "newer" 4g15? Are you asking if the newer model 4g15 will fit in a older generation CSM? As in the revised or "back-wards" version such as they made for the Evo. 4+?

In that case no. I would look at Mirage Performance Forums • Index page for a lot of good information. I usually spend a lot of time there.
 
By "newer" 4g15 I mean the 12valve 1.5 motor that was found in many mirage, colt, and summit models in the 90's. I believe it was still used on the base model mirage up through 2001 or so here in the states. The motor currently in my colt is also a 4g15, however, it's the "older" 8valve 1.5 engine that was phased out in the early 90's.
 
I had a 92 colt hatch 12 valve. . Pretty sure it a drop in may have to find some wiring harness guidence...this to keep it a daily?

yes, the colt will be a daily driver for sure. I've been pretty impressed with the mpg so far and it's great for those times when parking space is limited. It runs OK but grinds a bit when shifting into reverse. Pretty slow car, kinda feels like a goKart w\o much go. It'd be great if the 12vlave 1.5 motor could be installed w\o issue tho. Trying to see if anyone on here has ever done it?
 
As long as the motor mounts are all in the same place then more than likely it will fit. The whole ECU and wiring issue is where any "issues" would come up.
 
^ like he said. Pretty much any 4g series engine can be swapped in as long as the transmission and timing belt are in the same orientation. Also you might be able to get away with using the exact same wiring harness and ecu that is already in your colt. It just depends on if any of the electrical on the engine was changed. Namely the distributor.
