I don't plan on having the head or block decked indont think it's necessary so with that being said am j better off hawing an mow or just a composite? Like I stated earlier it's my dd I'm not building it For a turbo or nitrous or anything

Decking the block and plaining the head is done because the surfaces might possibly need to be leveled. If you warped your head something like .017", it will possibly leak again. I decked and plained only because I wanted my gasket to last. I am not running turbo or No2. Its actually preferred by factory you do these to ensure a proper seal. Dont quote me on the .017" though. I forgot the specifications.
 
so i plan on using felpro composite hg and how much is it going to cost me for the head and block to get decked

well if you are not planning on ,milling the head or block, I would say go composite.

But check the surface for warp, head and block

if you find .003 or more of warp, have that surface milled.

if the block is warped and needs milled, it will have to come out the car, and be fully disassembled, all brackets, crank, rods/pistons, ect
 
Unless you overheated the crap out of it.....and then kept going for a much longer time, there is no reason to deck your block. You're welcome to check it, but I have only decked one block through all my rebuilds/builds (and one had the head so bad I needed to take off .030 JUST to clean it up!).

Not to argue with you Mark... cause I would lose, but I believe the OP is running at least 8psi and if I was running any forced induction I would at least get the block checked especially if you havn't had the motor since day one and have no idea what past users had done to it. But again JMO.

Let me re-phrase what I said; there is likely no problem with your block unless it was heavily abused. Checking your block for flatness is a good idea that you should have a qualified shop do, if you can't do it yourself. But the weak "flex point" of the set-up is the head. It will warp long before the block and at that point, your head gasket is giving you problems.

As for .017 being a service point, no that is far off the number, As a matter of fact, if you were to clean up your mating surface, you would normally take off much less than that (say about .005 is usually enough).

And no you don't need a mirror like finish for using an MLS (but I see the importance in being sure that both surfaces are clean and flat). I haven't seen RA 50 in any of my rebuilds (except the one I had decked). Of course, unless you think I can hit RA 50 with my block sander on an engine block ;).

But more to the point of which HG to use; I feel the MLS is stronger but the composite is more forgiving.

I know right? You should hear my theory on why a dual throttle body intake plenum would yield a greater volumetric efficiency % then your four throttle body setup you had... I don't know what has gotten into me ;)

I was just using the .017" as an example. I couldn't remember how much was taken from mine, but .005" sounds about right for what was done. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
