Good evening , I have a 1997 Eclipse GS turbo 420A motor .I bought this car from a guy in Dallas and car turned out to to have several problems and will not pass inspection to get Title transferred . so I found this site. I have several question on how to get this car running correctly .but my first question would be dose any one know of a all in one shop that I can take my 420A eclipse and get it check out and fixed correctly. Car is failing for P0403 EGR and I don't see one in this car or were it should have been it has a gas house leek due to some kind of mod. Also has a power problem when car is charge and running it fine battery test good and alternator test good but when park and cars off for a while something is draining power and needs to be charge and jump back again. There are several things. My fist thing I want is to try and pass inspection and get this P0403 code fixed...I really need help in finding a good shop that know all about 420A motors .I live in cedar park tx so if anyone has or knows someone near me please hit me up...

I recommend you look at the left side of the engine to see if the egr is still in place, if not reinstall one and plug the vacuum line and electrical plug in problem solved

Well if I am In front of my car online it shows that the EGR for a 420A motor suppose to be on right side of the engine but I didn't see one . but since I am not a mechanic that why I am in need of one .

I am one I'll get you a pic on my nt car right now let me get a pic. Chrissy

Here' my egr it' where you see the cutout and the shiny piece of metal inside, there' a plastic valve on the front of it with a vacuum rubber hose and a wire

Check for a block off plate, if you have one there is a way to install a register as to not throw the egr code, you plug it into your egr wire, or you can put your egr back on (if you don' have one) just to pass inspection the take it back off, if this is the case you need the egr solenoid Valencia to and likey some rubber vacuum line

S
I just took some pictures of my car and the built .it has no EGR . it also has this crazy intake with vaulvs like for nitrouse .the turbo exhaust manifold has some kind of open pipe like it missing a pipe or something.
Send me some pics I know the 420a insde and out! Just bought a gst so got allot to learn on those LOL but I'll tell you this I can guide you through this on your 420a

I need to see if I can upload these pics I just took

Ok then there is a register mod or you can remove the block off plate and get a egr, you will likey need a egr tube it runs from the intake to the egr and is made of steel, you will also need the egr solenoid and vacuumed line, the vacuum line ties into the intake but since you have an aftermarket intake it might not have the three port to on the back of it

The egr is deleted. You can see the block off plate under the coolant lines running to the heater core.

I believe some people have had luck adding a resistor to the egr connector and getting the check engine light to go away. I never had luck with it back when I still had the stock ecu. Let me see if I can find a link.

The resistor mod mentioned above might or might not work. I've read about it working for some and not for others. In my personal experience, when I did it, it did not work. The code would always come back. A better solution is to hook the system back up, but leave the block off plate on the front of the head in place, add some washers between the valve and the block off plate (washers act as spacers). That way when the valve opens it'll suck in clean air. You could put some kind of foam or scotchbrite between the valve and the plate to simulate a filter element. I found an article one time that described how to drill into the valve and accomplish this same goal (of sucking in clean air). I tries looking for it, but couldn't find it.

Hope that helps a bit.

I’m curious what is being used to tune that. I’m guessing that’s meth injection on the UICP near the throttle body.

OP what all do you know about this car? Are the internals built?

Previous owner got some sh**ty welds on that O2 housing...
I agree bad welding The car was suppose to be A GS stock with low mileage so that I could build it up from scratch but now I am stuck with not knowing anything about this car. They guy I bought the car disappear after sell.while I was at title place they told me so blank sold you the car I send yes and when I went home I was like that lady at Title place gave me a different name then the guy I bought the car from ( something shade is going on )and sure enough I stuck with a car that I cant pass inspection .

they guy who sold me car was like job was done right no hack job and there are no problem with car. ( He fooled me )

I wish I new who the real owner was so that I could ask question about the build

Agreed. When I tried it, it didn’t work at all.

The block before the throttle body is for the extra fuel injectors, not Meth. That's how he is getting the extra fuel to support the turbo. He must have something controlling them.

Just put the EGR system back on the car and go past emissions, you have then remove it if you like. A junk yard would be your best bet to find the parts.

The car doesn't look that bad to me. I've seen a lot more hacked up stuff than this.

Looking at the pictures more, is there a dump pipe coming off of the external wastegate. It doesn't look like its connected to anything

a resistor won't do anything. the EGR check uses the O2 sensor for input.

If you need an EGR setup, hit me up. i got everything you need, even new gaskets.

That's the same thing I notice I knew some kind of pipe is missing .but it looks like no space to put a pipe

How much?

Op the car looks very nice but as someone mentioned you need to know if you have forged internals, if not they say to run no more than 8 psi on a stock engine
I wish I know if the car was built up internal before all these turbo stuff

a resistor won't do anything. the EGR check uses the O2 sensor for input.
