So in a bit of a dilemma guys. I finally finished my build on my gs. 60 trim turbo..28x9x3 fmic..yada yada... replaced the thermostat and gaskets on water neck. new radiator piping. i have a fluidyne radiator and for some reason when i get on it a lot after a while the over flow can starts pouring out hot anti freeze.

Do you think its the fans not turning on? when should they kick in? :idontknow:

2nd question... is it bad to run a car with no thermostat?

let the car idle and make sure your fans are coming on, do you have anyway of seeing your temps like a datalogger

This sounds like your headgasket. If you are shooting coolant out under boost, you have a headgasket problem.

the radiator fans should kick in a lil bit after the halfway mark on the temp gauge.

If your running the car without a thermostat and your overflow tank starts to overflow and throw out coolant that means that coolant is blocked somewhere possibly heater core or radiator check to see if your fans turn on first then go from there by next check the radiator.

I don't think running a car without a thermostat is bad if it only runs without it for like a day or two, but if you run without it always the engine will never get to "optimum operating temp" and that'll reduce the life of your engine.

i have a thermostat in there, I'm gonna check out the fans and see that situation hope its an easy fix...which it prob won't be :banghead:

Make sure both of the connectors are making connection to the sensors under the thermostat, one of them will still give you a temp gauge working the dash and still not turn the fans on if its loose. I forget which one though I want to say the one with the single spade will turn the fans on, or I should say the fans wont turn on if its not connected.

First off, not having a thermostat is not a good idea as the coolant wont be in the radiator long enough to cool off on hot days. The thermo is there for a reason. Next, the fans are programmed to turn on at about 190F unless you have something aftermarket on it. Also, if it starts running hot, the fastest way to cool it off before it boils is to turn on the A/C as this will make the 2nd fan turn on...if you still have it and based on your fan wiring (aftermarket systems can be rewired (as can stock) to come on without turning on the a/c for the second fan.

Lastly, it could be running hot due to having an exposed exhaust manifold. If you do not run a heat shield and go into boost often, it heats up the manifold so that it will not let the radiator be as efficient in cooling off the the antifreeze/water comb.

If you run more antifreeze, it will not disappate heat as well but, if you run more water, you will have a lower boiling point. Once water starts to boil, it has air in it that can be much hotter than the boiling temp of the fluid (usually 275F for a 50/50 mix) along with the fact that if you have a faulty cap, that will lower the boiling point as well. Every psi you cap is rated ups the boiling point of the coolant by around 3F.

If you are boiling coolant, it is possible to have a blown HG/faulty cap.

Check all of the above in order of access to see what the problem is. Also, check your system for leaks by pressurizing it. Blown HG should be fairly easy as you will probably have a cloud of smoke but, not always. It could be that your head is lifting.
